Virtual Book Club
Catch up with our library's Virtual Book Club this week on our Facebook page. This week, we focus on I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai.

I Am Malala is a memoir written by the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace
Prize. When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, Malala was
the one girl to speak out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for
her right for an education. When she was fifteen years old, she was shot in the
head at point blank range when riding the bus home from school, and very few expected her to survive. Defying the odds, Malala’s miraculous recovery has taken her on a journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York.

At sixteen, she became the global symbol of peaceful protest. I am Malala is the
remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, the fight for girls
education and a father who encouraged his daughter to attend school and of
brave parents who love their daughter in a society that prizes sons. I am Malala
will make you believe in the power of one person’s voice to inspire change in the
world.

You can find I Am Malala for download on one of our free online streaming services like Hoopla or The Ohio Digital Library.

Local Students Create Book To Share At Our Library
Three local 7th-grade students with the Dayton Regional STEM School have donated a copy of their self-published book to the Tipp City Library for our patrons to enjoy. Ana Brazie, Rachel Finegan, and Parker Nelson are the authors and illustrators of- The Lost Lemurs of Madagascar.

The Dayton Regional STEM School has a ten-year tradition of assigning 7th-grade students to become authors and illustrators. The assignment is a collaboration between the language arts class and the wellness and fitness class. The students worked in groups to create their book and then donated the printed books to local libraries, schools, and doctor’s offices to share the lessons they learned about conflict resolution, refusal skills, and effective communication. Their books show third to fifth-grade students how to deal with these issues through their original picture book stories.

The book is not available for check-out, but you can see the book on display by the Children’s Department desk and read it in the Children’s area.

Check out WDTN's coverage of Dayton Regional STEM School's book-making project.
