Follow Up From the Sunday 4/21 Service

Rev. Arlin Roy’s sermon of 4/21 —“Values is a Verb”— sparked two ideas for healthy living. Liz Clark offered to collect recipes for vegan and vegetarian dishes. These will be shared with the congregation. Contact Liz at emarshallclark@gmail.com if you have recipes to share. Denise suggested a group walk on the nearby Aqueduct Trail after services in May and June. Contact Denise (deniseuu23@gmail.com) if you are interested in doing this.

Join a Tour of Westchester Hills Cemetery, with Claudia Gisolfi

Wednesday, May 15, 1:00-3:30pm, Westchester Hills Cemetery, 400 Saw Mill River Rd, Hastings on Hudson, NY

Join Claudia Gisolfi for a tour of Westchester Hills Cemetery/ Stephen Wise Free Synagogue Cemetery, established in 1919. This is a unique opportunity to see the inside of the 1935 Chapel Lodge, which is usually not open to the public. In 2018, Peter Gisolfi Associates, the award-winning architectural firm of Claudia’s late father, completed its renovation of this historic structure. It features 6 genuine Tiffany Studios windows and a beautiful light-filled chapel, which formerly was the caretaker’s three-bedroom apartment. Famous people interred at the cemetery include actress Judy Holliday, New York Times Editor A. M. Rosenthal, composer George Gershwin, Solomon Guggenheim (founder of the famous Fifth Avenue museum), and the founders of Barricini Candy Co. The Gershwin, Guggenheim, and Barricini mausoleums are close to the Chapel Lodge. To sign up, please contact Claudia (cgisolfi8@gmail.com).

Reading Black Lives Book Group

"Slave-owning by free Blacks in antebellum America is the astonishingly rich subject of this impressively researched novel debut ." - Kirkus Reviews. "It’s not only a moving, rich novel that exposes a little known pocket of American history, but also a brilliant postmodern masterpiece whose most fascinating aspect is its deft, unusual manipulation of time. - Literary Hub.

Voices Cafe welcomes Jesse Terry & Sam Robbins

Saturday, May 4, 8:00pm, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, 10 Lyons Plain Rd, Westport, CT

Saturday eve, May 4th brings the outstanding co-bill of Jesse Terry and Sam Robbins, talented singer-songwriters who will touch your heart!

Jesse Terry spent his formative years right here in Wilton CT, and we’re thrilled to have him back at Voices Cafe. Jesse’s songs reflect so much of his own life as his family evolves, and he shares his very personal journey with us through his music! Sam Robbins, Nashville-based, brings a modern, upbeat edge to his storytelling, yet brings a troubadour tradition that evokes classic 70's singer-songwriters like James Taylor, Neil Young and Jackson Brown, Sam even holds NBC's “The Voice” fame, as the first artist to perform a Jim Croce song on the show!

Voices Cafe is proud to bring the power of song to contributing to, and supporting, the work that is done by The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport's Social Justice Council, whose committees' programs include actively supporting racial justice, gender equity, immigration, refugee resettlement, literacy, reproductive rights, and food security, among other issues.

UU the Vote is Seeking Phone Bank Volunteers

At UU the Vote, we hold dear the commitment to leave our relationships and communities enriched and fortified. Building upon the proud tradition of civic engagement within Unitarian Universalist circles, UU the Vote has galvanized this spirit into cohesive and values-driven nonpartisan year-round work. Through nurturing our skills, fostering leadership, and cherishing our connections, we lay the groundwork for robust local, regional, and national organizing efforts.

In facing the challenges ahead, we draw sustenance from shared values such as joy, appreciation, humility, and precision. Recognizing the strength in solidarity, we forge alliances not only amongst ourselves but also with allied groups within our communities.

UU the Vote endeavors to cultivate collective power and strengthen grassroots partnerships to grow democratic principles and institutions. This year, our focus extends to pivotal states like Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia, where our values and communities face unprecedented threats.

We hope you’ll join our first national phone bank of the year, calling voters in Georgia next Sunday, May 5th at 5pm ET/2pm PT.

Call Georgia Voters

Our strategy involves engaging in thousands of values-driven conversations with voters, knocking on doors, and collaborating closely with local organizations to effect positive change. Beyond merely recognizing what's at stake, the upcoming national election represents an opportunity to realize a unified national movement, dedicated to the pursuit of justice, accountability, and equity.

To achieve this vision, we implore you to join our collective effort. Together, we can turn possibility into reality, shaping a future defined by collaboration, resilience, and progress.
