Peter Paul eNews - September 2022

Dear Michelle,

We're so happy to welcome our students, families, seniors, volunteers, and neighbors back to Peter Paul's Coleman Center! Though things are a bit different this year, our commitment to those we serve remains the same. This year, we look forward to deepening the relationships with our core Peter Paul family and further focusing on the quality of our programming and the care we provide here at home. We're excited to get back to us.

With that in mind, we invite you to stop by the center to volunteer, join us at a lunch and learn, or attend one of our community events. We’re happy to have you here. Please check out all of our updates below, and don't forget to connect with us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter for the latest announcements. Thank you for your continued passion for Peter Paul and our purpose to Educate the Child, Engage the Family, and Empower the Community.

  • Emergency Assistance- Immediate response services are provided to current Peter Paul families as well as community members through partnerships with ACTS, The Giving Wall, CARITAS, and Peter Paul's immediate response budget.
  • Community Food Distribution- Bi-monthly food distribution occurs every 1st and 3rd Wednesday.

Student Basketball Game and Field Trip

Peter Paul students enjoyed a trip to Newport News last month to visit The Virginia Living Museum! The students were able to feed animals, pet underwater animals, tour the dinosaur and fossil exhibit, and so much more!

Our students were excited to run from exhibit-to-exhibit, recalling and connecting everything they’ve been learning in the Summer Promise Academy.

We believe these trips are great opportunities for our student to connect what they're learning inside the classroom with outside experiences. Our hope is to continue providing these unique trips to the students who attend our programs.

Contact Sharon Burton for more information.

Students and staff closed out summer programming with a bang this year with the end-of-summer basketball game! Each student in the program participated in their own way by either playing on a team, cheerleading, being on the step team, or making signs to cheer on their friends! Our staff joined in on the fun by being referees and team captains. We had a great time celebrating all the fun we had this summer including the Boys Lock-In. They created a music video titled "Me and My Friends" to celebrate their time together which you can check out here. Check out pics from the basketball game below!

Congratulations, Kenard!

We wanted to take a moment to highlight a major accomplishment from one our Z-LIFE participants. 19-year-old Kenard joined the program 9 months ago and has since then remained committed to his workforce goals! We are happy to share that Kenard recently obtained his first job and is currently working with our Z-LIFE Program Coordinator, Tyree to secure his own place. Congratulations, Kenard! If you’d like to contribute to this program by offering mentorship or sharing knowledge in career development, finances, taxes, etc., please contact Tyree Prince

Thank You, Carmax!

Special thanks to our friends over at CarMax for selecting Peter Paul for their fall donation drive!

They donated over 600LBS (wow!) of non-perishable food items and hygiene products to help restock our community pantry. Our staff and community members are so grateful for your partnership!
