ConTex Fellow Receives Best Poster Award | |

María Fernanda Villa Bracamonte, a ConTex Fellow at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), received the Best Poster Award at the 52nd IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference in Seattle, Washington. This recognition at a highly prestigious international conference represents a significant achievement for UTSA and the College of Engineering
The research is a collaborative effort between the Electrical Engineering Department and the MEMS Research Laboratory at UTSA. María Fernanda Villa Bracamonte participated as first and presenting author alongside co-authors Dr. José Raúl Montes Bojórquez, a recent UTSA Ph.D. graduate, and graduate student Kevin Knebel, from the Physics and Astronomy department. Dr. Arturo Ayón is the team's advisor.

A scholar of Civil Engineering, Liliana Lozada-Medellín successfully defended her dissertation this summer graduating with a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at El Paso. Under the supervision of Dr. Ivonne Santiago, Dr. Lozada-Medellín's research explores the evolving future of electric vehicle infrastructure.
Titled Advancing Understanding of Opinions, Perceptions, and Knowledge in Underrepresented Communities in the El Paso Region to Promote Electric Vehicles and Electrified Infrastructure Use to Reduce Environmental Impacts, Dr. Lozada-Medellín's dissertation examined gaps in public knowledge about the growing electric vehicle sector. To overcome these challenges, she envisions moving away from the current charging stations to electrified roads.

José Raúl Montes Bojórquez, a University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) physics Ph.D. scholar, successfully defended his dissertation in July of this year. Under the guidance of Dr. Arturo Ayón, Dr. Montes Bojórquez researched the viability of new sources of electricity based on solar energy.
Dr. Montes Bojórquez's dissertation, titled Efficient Light Harvesting for Photovoltaics Using Multifunctional Quantum Dot Arrays, studies the potential of harvesting solar power from specific, high-energy photons for more efficient solar energy collection and storage.

María Fernanda Villa Bracamonte, becaria de ConTex en la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio (UTSA), recibió el Premio al Mejor Póster en la 52nd IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference en Seattle, Washington. Este reconocimiento en una conferencia internacional de gran prestigio representa un logro significativo para UTSA y la Facultad de Ingeniería.
La investigación es un esfuerzo colaborativo entre el Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica y el Laboratorio de Investigación MEMS de UTSA. María Fernanda Villa Bracamonte participó como presentadora y primera autora en coautoría con el Dr. José Raúl Montes Bojórquez, quién recientemente recibió su título de doctorado de UTSA, y Kevin Knebel, estudiante de posgrado en el Departamento de Física y Astronomía. Liliana Lozada-Medellín, estudiante de Ingeniería Civil en la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, defendió con éxito su tesis este verano para así completar sus estudios de doctorado. José Raúl Montes Bojórquez, becario de doctorado en física en la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio (UTSA), defendió con éxito su tesis en julio de este año. Bajo la dirección del Dr. Arturo Ayón, el Dr. Montes Bojórquez investigó la viabilidad de nuevas fuentes de electricidad basadas en energía solar.
La tesis de doctorado del Dr. Montes Bojórquez, titulada Efficient Light Harvesting for Photovoltaics Using Multifunctional Quantum Dot Arrays, estudia el potencial de la captación de energía solar con fotones específicos de alta energía para una captura y almacenamiento más eficientes.
