DEM Holiday Party

The DEM Holiday Party will be at Mission Rock Resort on December 7, 2023 from 12-4 PM. It is about a 10 minute walk from the UCSF Mission Bay shuttle stop. An hour before the event (at 11 AM) there will be a White Elephant gift exchange in Pride Hall 3860. Please respond to the calendar invitation to RSVP.

Open Enrollment Ends

11/17/23 at 5 PM

UC Open Enrollment for 2024 benefits continues until this Friday, November 17th at 5 PM. Please make sure to have all changes to your benefits have been submitted by the deadline. Changes not made will not be captured in the upcoming year, NO EXCEPTIONS.

UCSF at ZSFG Faculty & Staff Appreciation Event

UCSF is hosting a faculty and staff appreciation event on Wednesday, 11/29 from 11:30am-1:00pm in PH 1930, 1940, and 1950.

Supply Chain Management Announcements

During the upcoming holiday season, many offices - including SCM - have reduced staffing. To help ensure smooth processing of POs and requisitions that need to be completed by the end of December 2023, SCM is asking you to submit and approve requisitions, lien removals, or chartfield changes ASAP.


For faculty, staff, and trainees who travel internationally, a required Attestation Form (regarding registration for free UC international travel insurance) replaced the International Travel Approval and Resources Form.

Awards and Publications

Tim Henrich was promoted to a Professor in Residence. Congrats, Tim!


Paul Ogongo delivered a workshop lecture at the 6th Africa International Biomedical and Biotechnology Conference (AIBBC 2023) in Naivasha, Kenya.


He also gave a talk at the 66th Annual Meeting of the Annual Meeting of Research Fellows in Boston, MA.


Lastly, he presented a poster at the 27th Annual National CFAR meeting at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.


Babak Javid was featured in the opening of the Freakonomics podcast titled, How to Succeed at Failing, Part 4: Extreme Resiliency.


Lucas Chen received a Spotlight Award for proactively learning how to check BSC certification prior to work.


Gabby Kimmerly tied for best poster at this year's BMS retreat.


Rachel Rutishauser is the PI with co-investigators (Michael Peluso, Amelia Deitchman, Ole Søgaard, Boris Juelg, and Guin Lee) for a newly fudned amfAR ARCHE grant "Characterizing non-direct functions of bNAbs" in which they are seeking to understand the immunologic and virologic characteristics of the so-called "vaccinal" effect of HIV bNAbs given at the time of ART treatment interruption.


Gina Borgo and Rachel Rutishauser wrote a review published in the November issue of Current Opin HIV AIDS. Click here to read.


Demi Sandel gave a presentation at the annual DARE UM1 HIV cure collaboratory meeting in Portland, OR titled: "CD8+ T cell responses in the lymph node early post-ATI".


Rafa Tiburcio gave a lightning talk at the annual HVTN ESI conference at UC Davis titled "Using scTCRseq assays to assess clonotype hierarchies after therapeutic vaccination for HIV".
