Dear Members and Friends,

As we wrap up a busy year at the MPOA, we are excited to share more details on the Beach Park restoration and the many ongoing initiatives in The Moorings and the City of Naples. This month's issue includes updates on the location of the NCH Heart and Stroke Institute, the public safety vision of the new Naples Chief of Police, and discounted memberships at the NCH wellness centers.

2024 is an election year, so we’ve included a guide to election dates and voting resources. We are also working with the Park Shore Association and Gulf Shore Association of Condos to develop a Candidates Forum for Mayoral and City Council candidates on February 8th. Stay tuned for more details.

I wish you and your loved ones a Happy Holiday and New Year.

See you at the Beach Park.

Chief Dominguez Shares His Vision of Community Policing

MPOA members, both in person and via Zoom, heard from Chief Dominguez of the Naples Police Department who shared his public safety vision for the City of Naples.

After an introduction by Board President, Cliff Holland, Chief Dominguez shared his philosophy of policing, “I'm a police officer and have always been a police officer,” he stated. “I started here in 1982, and although I've traveled and worked in different places, my core values are the same - always have been the same – to serve and protect my community. Now I’ve done that in different roles in the past because of my assignments. But the mission is the mission, and the mission is always protecting and serving people.”

He then described what happens when you apply that philosophy to the Naples Police Department, “You take that core value and you put it into the paradigm of what are the needs and what are the services that the Naples community needs? And I can tell you where we are is that we have strong and well-trained men and women at this police department. What we're able to provide them with on our leadership team is the direction and the vision of where the agency needs to go to meet the challenges that are ahead of us.”

PAB Votes to Support Downtown Location of the

NCH Heart & Stroke Institute

The Naples Planning Advisory Board voted 4-3 at the December 13th meeting to recommend the downtown location for the NCH Heart and Stroke Institute. Paul Hiltz, NCH President and CEO, expressed thanks to the HOA's that worked to communicate the support of their members for the downtown location and noted, "Yesterday’s success is only because of the outpouring of support from all of you and your HOAs. The PAB repeatedly commented on the hundreds of communications it received, and 95%+ were positive for NCH."

The MPOA Board voted unanimously at the November Executive Committee meeting to support the downtown location. Chairman Emeritus Linda Black shared the MPOA Board's letter of support at the December 13th PAB meeting. A poll of the MPOA membership showed that more than 90% of respondents were also in favor of the downtown location.

The Naples City Council will take up review of the project at the January 18th City Council meeting.
