Thank you to our Youth!

This past Sunday was Youth Sunday! Our Youth members led us in worship, sharing their gifts with us.

We are especially thankful to Connor for sharing their Senior Testimony with us!

We also give thanks for all members of Grace for your support of our Youth and their programming! You make a difference in their lives of faith!
Members and friends, we are saddened to inform you of a death in our congregation:

Kay Lynes
1943-2023

Kay died on Monday, May 15, at home with her family.

In the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, we entrust Kay to God.

Our sympathy and prayers enfold her family, especially her nephew, Larry, niece Lynn, and stepchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel on Monday, May 22, at 11am.
The family will host a viewing and receive friends proceeding the service, from 9:30 to 10:45am.

Kay will be laid to rest at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomaria at 3pm that day.
Grace Endowment Fund Grants - Junior Women's Club of Rock Hill

Each year, the Endowment Committee awards several grants for ministry and mission beyond our Missional Spending Plan. These grants come from the interest earned on our Endowment Fund, and can be for pilot projects, special causes, needs of the Synod, community, other organizations, and more!

One grant given in 2022 went to the Junior Women's Club of Rock Hill. They sent us a message about the impact of this grant:

"The Junior Woman’s Club of Rock Hill (JWC of RH) is a nonprofit organization and we are members of the General Federation Women’s Clubs of South Carolina and General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Thanks to the generosity of Grace Lutherans Endowment Grant, the Jr. Woman’s Club of Rock Hill was granted $1,000 in 2022. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South Carolina (GFWC-SC) is comprised of more than 1,115 members in 45 clubs. Our volunteer service is focused on seven community service and special programs: Arts and Cultural, Environment, Education and Libraries, Health and Wellness, Civic Engagement and Outreach, Signature Program – Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention, Junior Special Project - Advocates for Children. Collectively, we are Lighting the Way.

Thanks to the generosity of Grace Lutheran Church Endowment Committee we received a $1,000.00 grant and we selected Safe Passage of Rock Hill as the recipients of the grant we received. Safe Passage is a non-profit organization providing supportive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. With the money received we were able to purchase a Toddler bed and mattress, a Graco Stoller and car seat and weather protector, a Graco Car seat and booster, a High chair, a wide assortment of ladies undergarments, liquid laundry detergents, laundry baskets and a gift card for more purchases of their selection.

We cannot thank you enough for selecting us so we can give back to those in our community."

Thank you for your support of the Grace Endowment Fund!
This month, we'll be highlighting Mental Health. Mental illness affects millions of people and it's important to talk about mental health!

This week, Traci Quinn shares with us ways to support loved ones experiencing sadness and depression.

Help for a loved one who is sad or depressed
When someone you care about is sad or depressed, offering advice may be something you do with only good intentions in mind. It can be hard to find helpful words to say, and important that what you convey is helpful and supportive, rather than minimizing their feelings. Be mindful that the words you say can make a different and be careful that your words are not doing more harm than good. Here are some tips:
Understanding sadness vs. depression
A person experiencing sadness can usually find some relief from crying, venting, or talking out frustrations. Often, sadness is related to a specific trigger such as stress at work or school, or loss of a job or a loved one. Sadness usually passes with time, but if it lasts more than two weeks and does not pass, or if the person becomes unable to resume normal function, this could be a sign of depression.

If low mood gets worse or lasts longer than 2 weeks, the person should talk to their doctor and may need medication, therapy, or both. However, if their depressive symptoms and thoughts become hopelessness, feeling they have no reason to live, or expressing thoughts of suicide, a prevention hotline can help. During a crisis, the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 988. For people who are hard of hearing, they can use their preferred relay service or dial 711 then 988.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Grace Member / Friend Memories
One of the ways we will be celebrating the rich history of Grace this year is to hear about its impact on the lives of its
members.

These do not need to be very long - even a single paragraph would be fine. Simply share with us your perspective, the way your story and Grace's story came together, and we will publish these remembrances in these Grace Notes publications throughout the year.
Email your memories to 100years@gracerockhill.com
