Welcome to the Winter PPO Newsletter! The highlights of this issue are updates to the User Guide, as well as an article about an upcoming change to Google Analytics.
User Guide Updates
Updated text and screenshots have been added to the PPO User Guide, available at https://museumsoftware.com/ppohelp/, to reflect the changes made to PPO earlier this year. If you missed that announcement, you can read about these changes in the Summer 2022 newsletter.

We are always happy to help via phone and email support, but the User Guide and is available for you 24/7. Be sure to add this great resource to your PPO tool belt!
Google Analytics
Analytics is a free service offered by Google, that once added to your PPO site, allows you to view statistics about how visitors reach your site, how long they are staying on pages, which pages are visited the most, and more. It can even display a comparison of traffic between two periods, e.g., this week and last week.

There are currently two different types of Google Analytics properties: "Universal Analytics" and "Google Analytics 4" (GA4) properties.

Earlier this year, Google announced that Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new hits starting July 1, 2023. If you are using Universal Analytics, it is recommended you switch to a GA4 property. More information about this can be found on Google's support page at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/11583528.

You will likely need to work with your marketing team or the webmaster for your main website to transition to a GA4 property. Once you have a new GA4 tracking ID, also called a Measurement ID, email that information to pposupport@museumsoftware.com so we can add the new code to your site. Google has put together instructions for finding your updated tracking ID at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9539598.

Analytics can only provide statistics starting from when it is added to your site, so if you are interested in these statistics for all of 2023, send us your new ID as soon as possible!

Curious about what terms your visitors are searching for when using your site? Check out the User Guide for information on the built-in search reporter.
Staff Pick
We are asking each of our staff to choose a favorite item from one of the many online collections. This artifact was selected from the online collection of The Tuxedo Historical Society by Jessica because:

"My family and I stayed in Tuxedo, NY this past summer as part of our vacation. My kids love trains so the train station there was a big hit. Finding older photographs of places that I have visited not only brings back happy memories, but it helps remind me of the historical significance of the sites and buildings."
Grant Spotlight
Applications for the National Digital Newspaper Program, offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), are now open. The application is due by January 12, 2023.

The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress (LC) to create a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963, from all the states and U.S. jurisdictions. This searchable database will be permanently maintained at LC and will be freely accessible online (see the Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers website).
