International Clinical Trials Day

Friday, May 20th, 2022

Recognize and celebrate the important work that we all do!

On this day back in 1747, James Lind’s celebrated control trial began. While working as a surgeon on a ship, Lind was appalled by the high mortality of scurvy among sailors. He planned a comparative trial of the most promising cure for scurvy, which covered the essential elements of a controlled trial. He discovered that patients who received oranges and lemons made a nearly full recovery, and the next best treatment was cyder (all have vitamin C).

Clinical Research Pet of the Month
This month is all about RWJMS CRC Nurse Manager Debbie McCloskey’s “Brothers from Different Mothers, ” aka Henry (a Japanese Chin breed) and Jaxon (a Tabby cat.)

Jaxon hails from Colorado where his humble beginnings as a kitten born on a farm began, until he was adopted by Debbie’s daughter Kaite. According to Debbie, in addition to looking oddly like one another (and despite their different life circumstances,) Henry and Jaxon are best buddies. They play together, cuddle together, get into mischief together and are generally inseparable.

Congratulations, Henry and Jaxon!
