SHRED EVENT at the Senior Center
Thurs., Feb. 6, 1-3 PM (or until shred truck is full)
Free Shred Event for Seniors (age 50+) to assist in shredding sensitive records and documents.
• Limit 4 boxes or bags per person
• No binders or paper clips
• Residential shredding only
A shred truck from Secure Records Solutions will be on site to shred sensitive documents to help prevent fraud, prevent identity theft.

The games feature friendly competitions for all fitness levels. Sports enthusiasts age 50 and older are encouraged to participate. If you enjoy athletic camaraderie and challenging yourself, sign up for Senior Games!
Registration is now open.
Games kick off February 26 with a Torch Run at Cascades Park

Connect with a Classic Banned Book:
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Mon., Feb. 3, 10:00 am – 11:30 am
Steinbeck's 1937 novella describes the experiences of two displaced migrant ranch workers as they move from place to place in California seeking jobs during the Great Depression and is based on Steinbeck's own experiences working along migrant farm workers in the 1910’s. The book appears on the American Library Association‘s list of the Top 100 Banned/Challenged Books. Instructor Kathy Allman will help us to understand elements such as theme, symbolism, and character development, as well as some of the notable passages. Join us for a robust discussion of this American classic.
Valentine Chocolate Dipping
Tues., Feb. 11, 5:30 pm
Make a plate of delicious chocolate-dipped fruit for your sweetheart (or yourself)! Tiffany Lewis of Milk Me Treats will teach the group how to make chocolate-dipped strawberries and other seasonal fruits. Enjoy snacks and sparkling wine during the class and go home with a plate of goodies!
Eleanor Roosevelt: American Politician, Diplomat, and Activist
(3 parts) Thursdays: Feb. 13, 20, and 27, from 10 – 11:30 am
Historians consider Eleanor Roosevelt the most active and progressive thinking First Lady with her accomplishments as social reformer, voracious writer, and fearless advocate for civil rights. The First Lady advocated for immigrants; created after-school care for working mothers; originated the first commune for homeless mineworkers in West Virginia; and worked directly with African Americans regarding civil rights legislation.

Southside Art Therapy starts this Friday
This FREE Art Therapy group is an exploration of feelings, experiences, and fostering community using art. Our focus will be on the process of art-making rather than the product. There is no wrong way to do it!

Draw, Paint, Create: Artists’ Forum
Wednesdays, Feb. 5 - Feb. 26 (4 weeks)
1 - 4 pm, on ZOOM
A friendly, safe and fun online forum for intermediate and advanced artists in all art forms, lead by Mark Fletcher, where everyone is encouraged to present their works for supportive and encouraging critique. Participants will discuss each work and provide suggestions to each artist. When appropriate, the instructor will provide context based upon historical and current techniques.

AARP Tax Aide This year, AARP is offering both In-Person and Drop-off Service. With the convenient drop off service, you will leave your tax documents with an IRS-certified volunteer who will prepare your return. During a second visit, you will work together to finalize your return, file it and leave with a printed copy of the return and your original documents.
