Exciting news! A scholar exchange between UCSF and Stellenbosch University in Cape Town has resulted in advancements for a large clinical trial focused on improving drug-resistant tuberculosis patient treatment outcomes.
Alina Nalyvayko, a scientist in both the Metcalfe and Javid labs, tested UCSF-validated DNA extraction methods on clinical samples to optimize upstream targeted next generation sequencing workflows for programmatic implementation studies in South Africa.
She also attended the Stellenbosch BMRI tuberculosis symposium and learned about the latest research from renowned scientists from around the world. And as a bonus, Alina even saw a familiar face in Dr. Sara Suliman, a UCSF scientist who gave a talk at the symposium. Great job, team!
