US Institute of Peace (USIP) National Peace Essay Contest
Deadline: April 5, 2021
Each year, the the US Institute of Peace and the American Foreign Service Association sponsor a National High School Essay Contest. This year’s topic, “Diplomats and Peacebuilders: Powerful Partners,” challenges students to look at how US foreign service officers (diplomats) have partnered with peacebuilders to mediate or prevent violent conflict in a specific situation. Any high school student is eligible to apply; essays should be 1,000-1,250 words in length. First prize is amazing - a $2,500 award, a paid trip to DC, and a free educational voyage with Semester at Sea.

Global Classrooms DC: Spring 2021 Model UN Conference
Program Dates: April 16-17, 2021
Global Classrooms DC's annual Spring Model UN Conference, sponsored by the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area, is taking place virtually on April 16 and 17th! Register today for an engaging experience, including all new exciting topics, keynote remarks from UNA-USA Youth Observer Dustin Liu, and an exclusive roundtable with UN experts and ambassadors for best delegates. The spring conference is for middle and high school students in grades 5-12. Registration is open both to classrooms and individual delegates; those who are not already part of the GCDC program are welcome.

New Curriculum and Webinar: What Does It Mean to Be An American?
Program Date: Saturday, February 20, 7:00-8:00 am ET (10:00-1100 am PT)
Join educators across the country for an introduction to this new online curriculum for high school and college students that blends America's past with current-day issues such as immigration, civil liberties and equity, justice and reconciliation, civic engagement, and leadership, and inspires students to consider the question, "What Does It Mean To Be An American?" The curriculum was developed by the Mineta Legacy Project in partnership with the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education (SPICE), and is available at no cost.
