The Experiment Digital Youth Leadership & Community Service
Priority Application Deadline: Feb 16, 2021 (final deadline: April 20, 2021)
Program Dates: June 21-August 15, 2021
This free eight-week summer virtual program connects young people across the United States with peers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, such as Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, West Bank & Gaza, and Yemen. It is designed to prepare high school students to be more civically engaged and lead change, and to formulate and implement service projects in their local communities. Students must be 14-19 years of age, in high school, and able to devote 4 hours each week to this program.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EDUCATORS

Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellowship
Program Dates: Spring 2021
Application Deadline: February 8, 2021
How can engagement with underreported global news stories support existing curricula, while also preparing students to engage curiously, critically, and empathetically with the world? The Pulitzer Center will select a small cohort of educators who will explore this question in a community with other passionate fellows, award-winning journalists, and the Pulitzer Center education team. Fellows will develop short units that engage their students in making local connections to global news, practicing media literacy skills, and building empathy. Teachers who successfully complete the program, will receive an $800 stipend and 25 Professional Learning Units (PLUs).

Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Research Program
Travel Dates: 3-6 months during the 2021-22 School Year
Application Deadline: March 7, 2021
Sponsored by the US State Department and administered by IREX, the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Research Program provides an opportunity for K-12 educators from the US to conduct research and engage in other professional learning experiences abroad for three to six months. Participants conduct individual inquiry projects on a topic relevant to education in the US and the host country, take courses at a host university, and share educational practices with colleagues. Applicants must be US citizens with at least 3 years of teaching experience. Participating countries for 2021-22 are Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Greece, India, Israel, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

Fulbright Teachers For Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC)
Program Dates: SY2021-2022
Application Deadline: March 24, 2021
The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program, funded by the US Department of State and administered by IREX, is a year-long professional development fellowship for K-12 teachers to develop skills for preparing students for a competitive global economy. Fulbright TGC equips teachers to bring an international perspective to their schools through targeted training, experience abroad, and global collaboration. The program includes an online professional development course, a Washington, DC global education symposium, and a 2-3 week international field experience. Applicants must be US citizens who are full time K-12 teaching professionals with 3 or more years of classroom experience.

Georgetown University Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (CCAS) Educator Workshops
CCAS announces the following free educator workshops on the Middle East/North Africa, scheduled for this spring. Click here for more details on this calendar of upcoming events and to register, or click on each workshop below.

Program Date: Feb 6, 2021, 10 am-1 pm (online)
Co-sponsored with the African Studies Center at Boston University and the National Museum of African Art, this workshop is for middle school, high school, and community college educators.

Program Date: Sat, April 3, 2021, 10 am-2:00 pm (online)
Co-sponsored by the African Studies Center and School of Education at Howard University and Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, this workshop will feature current award-winning books from the Africana Book Awards and the Middle East Outreach Council Book Awards, with a focus on how to use them in the classroom. Teachers will receive books to take home and other resources.

Program Dates: Thursday evenings, 5:00 – 6:30 pm (monthly)
This webinar series for educators grades 6-14 consists of five interactive sessions between January and May 2021, featuring resources and strategies for teaching about the Middle East relevant to both in-person and virtual teaching.

Join George Takei and others for a live discussion about this award-winning documentary for this Day of Remembrance event commemorating the date on which President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, ordering the incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II.
