Students Build Confidence through Business Partner Support
Nearly 180 students from Reid, Poly PAAL, and Wilson High Schools stepped into the hot seat this spring to practice their interview skills alongside LBUSD’s Business Partner community. Over 50 professionals representing an array of industries and career pathways dedicated their time to supporting students by providing encouragement and constructive feedback. Business Partners also coached students on what to expect in future interviews, including addressing commonly asked questions and describing the traits of professionalism, which ultimately gave students a big confidence boost.
Mock interviews are a fun, effective way to prepare students for internships, work experiences and college applications. They give students the opportunity to network with business professionals and alleviate some of the stressors that come with interviews.  One high school student reflected, "This mock interview event was a great way to practice before actually going to an interview. It helps build up confidence and be less nervous than you should be.”  Student participants weren’t the only ones who were fulfilled by the experience. “Encouraging students to practice the interviewing process sets them up for success. Even this one opportunity gives them so much more of an advantage,” said a Business Partner.

LBUSD is truly grateful to every volunteer who made all nine of these career events possible. We also express our gratitude to the teams at Reid, Poly, and Wilson High Schools for all the work they did coordinating behind the scenes. And, of course, we congratulate all of the brilliant student participants who pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones to take on this career connected learning experience. You make us #ProudtobeLBUSD!
