Happy New Year! I hope the last few weeks have been restful and rejuvenating. As we begin the new year, co-curricular activities for the winter are in full swing. Basketball, swimming, wrestling and ultimate frisbee are entering the middle of their schedules. Our actors are preparing for the
One-ActsPlay Festival on
January 16-18, and our Spring Musical,
The Addams Family, is in its early stages of student production. Please come out and support the Braves whenever possible!
Our students will be taking first semester finals
January 21-24. Students, families, faculty and staff provided positive feedback about the newly adopted final exam schedule we piloted last year, spreading finals over four days instead of three. We hope that it gives students ample time to rest, prepare and meet with faculty during office hours before and after school.
Given the current forecast for snow next week, we recommend students bring home this Friday all review material, notes, devices, books in preparation for finals - and to regularly monitor Google classroom and email for communication from teachers. If there is any change to our schedule due to weather, we will follow our established procedures that were sent out in the
October 9, 2019 Weekly Update. Our website will always be the first communication tool updated in the event of a closure.
Additionally, this is an exciting time for the 8th graders in our extended community as today is the deadline to submit an application to become a Brave in the Class of 2024!

STAR TIMES DEFENSIVE TEAM HONORS
Congratulations to senior Connor Stutz who was recognized by the Seattle Times as the punter of the year. Connor averaged 43 yards per boot and had nine punts inside the 15 yard line. Please click

BASKETBALL QUAD NIGHT
Come out to support the BBHS Basketball program this Friday as we take on Roosevelt. There will be a half time shooting contest, a taco truck, a middle school information table plus some great hoops. It's a WHITE OUT! Want to wear the white "Family B" t-shirt? They are still available in the Brave Cave and will also be available for purchase at the Friday's games.

WOMEN IN ATHLETICS SERIES
Join us on Monday, January 13 at 3:00 p.m. in the Norcliffe Student Commons for the next event in our Women in Athletics Series. The BBHS Athletic Department and the BBHS Feminism Club are excited to welcome Jenna Moser to our campus. Jenna walked on to the UW Women's Basketball team and earned her position as a two year starter for the Huskies. She is now the Coordinator of Player Development at UW. Come out and hear about her inspiring journey!
WIAA SCHOLASTIC CUP
Bishop Blanchet had a terrific athletic and academic Fall Season. Currently, the Braves rank
7th
in all of 3A. The Braves look to continue the success into the winter season.

The WIAA Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance."

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Last summer we read the book together. This January, let's go see the movie together!
The Multicultural Affairs Council (MAC) is excited to host a private viewing of
Just Mercy
, based on the book by Bryan Stevenson. The movie screening will be on
January 27
at the AMC Oaktree Theater.
$10 pre-sale tickets will be available next week - and the event will sell out. Save the date for a night of community and connection (and popcorn and prizes)! Students, parents and ALL members of the BBHS community are welcome!
DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
The Bishop Blanchet International Program is in need of host families for the 2020-21 school year. If you are interested in a cultural experience, are excited to welcome a high school student into your home, can provide a private bedroom and quiet study space for your host student to study, this could be for you! A generous monthly stipend is provided. Current international students are from China, Chile, Italy and Vietnam.

ONE-ACT FESTIVAL
Come check out the One-Act Festival next weekend in the Marge Bradburn BlackBox Theatre.
A joint production between the Advanced Acting and Advanced Theatre Production classes, the One-Act Festival performs at 7:00 p.m. on
January 16, 17 and 18. Admission is free!
In
Twitch, Nancy and Don are a bit suspicious that their new neighbors, Aiden and Emma, are hiding something, and when Aiden and Emma invite themselves over, things get more and more peculiar in this out-of-this-world comedy by Stephen Gregg.
Swagger, by Eric Coble, centers around the three characters: Leela, Danielle, and Jordan, and what happens one day at Leela's new business, "Swagger." Throughout the play, the audience will watch the story unfold as it builds up to the horrific incident, which will change all three character's lives forever.
FIELD TRIP
Members of Advanced Acting and Advanced Theatre Production recently went on a field trip to a production of The Great Moment at Seattle Repertory Theatre. Students had the chance to meet with the actor Greg Mullavey, from iCarly, pictured below.

WINTER BALL
Winter Ball is on Saturday,
January 25
, at the Nile Country Club in Shoreline. Dress for this dance is semi-formal. Tickets go on sale Monday, January 13 and will be sold during both lunches in the Commons. Tickets are $20 per person. Guest pass requests for non-BBHS students are available

and in the Counseling and Activities Offices. Completed forms must be received prior to purchasing guest tickets. Please review the BBHS student handbook for dance guidelines and dress code. Parent assistance is needed for this dance; please sign up here to volunteer.
NEW BBHS HONOR JACKET
BBHS students who earn an Athletic, Academic, Performing Arts or other school Honors now have two options for showing their school pride! In addition to the
traditional Letter jacket, we are pleased to now offer the Honor jacket, a black fleece jacket that comes with the Blanchet "B" on the left chest and "Braves" on the right sleeve. JUNIOR SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
On Saturday,
February 8
at 10:00 a.m. there will be a special World Day of the Sick mass at Mount St. Vincent nursing home in West Seattle. This mass is an opportunity for residents of the Mount to receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and be blessed with holy water from Lourdes. Volunteer roles for BBHS juniors include greeting guests as they arrive to the chapel and transporting Mt. St. Vincent residents to mass (many are in wheelchairs and need help getting to the chapel).

SENIOR TRIBUTES FOR THE YEARBOOK
The 2019-2020 has yearbook set aside 24 pages for senior tributes. This gives parents of the Class of 2020 a chance to honor their child's accomplishments over the last 18 years. We still have 13 pages to fill.
Since all of the proceeds from these tributes go to reducing the price of Prom, We would love to sell every available space. This is a first come, first served opportunity.

COUNSELING NEEDS ASSESSMENT
During CP on January 10 students will be taking an optional, anonymous needs assessment survey from the BBHS Counseling Department. This survey was created in accordance with best practices from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and includes questions from ASCA and OSPI's Healthy Youth Survey. The data received will help us plan our counseling services and provide resources based on the social/emotional needs of our students.
COUNSELOR CONNECTION FOR FROSH PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parents/Guardians of 9th graders are invited to join us for an informal gathering with our counselors on the morning of Thursday,
January 16
, from 8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. in the Norcliffe Student Commons. We will have a brief conversation about studying for finals and how to have a successful 9th grade year. The primary focus of the morning will be parent Q&A.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Colleges and universities offer a variety of summer programs for high school students at all grade levels. Students can stop by the Counseling Center to find out more about these fun enrichment opportunities. They can also check out the Job Board in the Norcliffe Student Commons and the Service Opportunities listings outside of Campus Ministry.
PSAT SCORES
Student scores from the PSAT/NMSQT are available online. Students who provided their email address on their PSAT answer sheet should have received an email from College Board on

, explaining where and how to view their scores. Please click

SAT AND ACT TEST PREP
There are several different organizations that offer test prep for both the SAT and ACT. Here are a few:
- Mazor Test Prep sessions are beginning soon. Please see their website for information on classes and tutoring for upcoming SAT and ACT administrations. BBHS students receive a $100 discount!
- Test prep sessions are also offered through the University of Washington Women's Center. Please click here for more information.
- ACT Academy provides students with personalized study plans to help them prepare for the ACT.
SCHOLARSHIP OFFER LETTERS
Some of our seniors are already receiving admission decision letters from colleges. As your senior receives scholarship offers, please send a copy of the scholarship letter to Ms. Moehring in the Counseling Center so we can recognize your senior's achievement in the end of the year programming.
