Weekly Update
October 9, 2019
From the Principal's Office

Dear BBHS families,

Prior to winter weather arriving, we want to test our SchoolMessenger text notification system that is used when weather or an emergency causes a change in schedule. We will notify our community the following ways in the event of an unplanned schedule change:
  • The school website and social media accounts (follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter: @bishopblanchet) will be updated to reflect the change in schedule. Our website will alway be the first communication tool updated as text messaging and email can have lag times.
  • A text alert (SMS) will be sent to primary and secondary parent/guardians, all students and faculty/staff using SchoolMessenger
  • An email will be sent to all parents/guardians, students and faculty/staff.
  • Local news stations will be notified of closures/schedule changes.
We will attempt to make weather related decisions by 5:30 AM unless conditions change during the day. If school is closed, all activities, practices and games are canceled for that day. If school start time is delayed, BBHS bus service will not be available. After school activities and food service may be impacted by late starts and those changes will be communicated via email. As always, we will make these decisions based on the safety of all involved.

We will send a test of the text broadcast system to all mobile phone numbers listed in Skyward for parents, guardians and students tomorrow evening, Thursday, October 10 . Please ensure all mobile numbers for your family are updated in Skyward. For questions about Skyward, please email Rhonda Osborne at [email protected]. For questions about the emergency procedure and text alert test, please email Julie Gallaudet at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Sam Procopio
Principal

PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress Reports will be posted by the end of the school day on Friday, October 11 . To view your student's progress report, please select the Portfolio Tab in Skyward.

Progress reports for first semester are: October 11, November 15 and December 19.  They will be available to view by the end of the school day on those dates.

PSAT AT BBHS
Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT on October 16 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Students need to be in their testing rooms by 8:00 AM. Most students are testing in their CP classrooms. If a student's testing room is being modified it will be communicated with the student ahead of time.

On testing day, students need to bring two No. 2 pencils with soft erasers (no mechanical pencils) and an acceptable calculator for the Math section. Students can bring snacks but need to keep them in their backpack only accessible during breaks. Electronic equipment of any kind is not permitted. This includes cell phones, laptops, bluetooth devices and tablets.

The PSAT is a test designed to be taken in the fall of 11th grade. It can be a challenging test for 9th and 10th graders as they may not have been exposed to some of the concepts. However,  taking the exam as early as 9th grade has many advantages. First, it allows students at the beginning of their high school career to know their areas of strength and opportunities for growth. Second, it prepares students as early as possible for the SAT, which many colleges use as part of their admissions criteria. Third, it allows students, families and our school to measure academic growth over four years at Bishop Blanchet. If you have any questions, please contact Nick Moffitt at [email protected].

PERFORMING ARTS AND FEMINIST CLUB SERVICE PROJECT

Our students will be collecting donations at all performances of Pride and Prejudice, November 1-3 in the Black Box Theatre. In addition, the Thursday night preview will be collecting monetary donations that will go directly to ReWA. Thank you for your support!

Suggested donations welcomed by ReWA include:
  • Toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, soap, etc.)
  • Diapers, wipes, baby formula
  • Feminine care products
  • Utensils, pots & pans, plates, cups, dish towels
