May 1, 2020

Dear Friends,

Thank you to the many people who were able to join my District 3 Virtual Town Hall last night. Updates on COVID-19, development, school construction, the budget, and more were shared. If you were not able to join us you can watch the presentation here

Special thanks to Census
Outreach Coordinator, Jordan Baucum Colbert, and Prince George's County School Board Members Bryan Swann (District 4), Joshua Thomas (District 2) and Pamela Boozer-Strother (District 3) for joining the meeting.

I have created an online form in English and Spanish to help connect District 3 residents with resources and assistance.

The top portion of the online form lists numerous resources. The bottom portion requests contact information and a brief description of needs. My team and I will use this form to help connect District 3 residents in need with with assistance. Please share the link https://bit.ly/D3Help with others. (Note this shortened link it is case-sensitive.) Not sure if you live in D3? Look at the map here.

Food Distribution Tomorrow

Are you in a position to help others? Here are ways you can help.

Donate to  Greater Riverdale Cares to support the purchase of meals from locally owned restaurants which are donated to families in need. Your gift will help the businesses keep employees on staff and feed families.

Sew masks for our food distribution volunteers and vulnerable residents. Please email  CouncilDistrict3@co.pg.md.us if you have masks, fabric or elastic to donate OR if you can sew masks if provided with materials. Or visit Route 1 Mask Match to learn more.

Contribute Pantry Items to local food banks:
 - St. Andrew's Church, 4512 College Avenue, College Park (drop off at the back door under the awning near the rear parking lot)
 - College Park Church of the Nazarene, 9704 Rhode Island Avenue, College Park

Baby formula is in high demand. Donate baby formula at the Riverdale Park Police Station, 5004 Queensbury Road, Riverdale Park.

Latin American Youth Center is supporting many Latino families in need with groceries, diapers, and other items. Donate at www.layc-dc.org/

CASA's Solidarity Fund is supporting neighbors who do not qualify for government relief. Learn more and donate at https://wearecasa.org/

Donate to the Employ Prince George's Employee Relief Fund. More than 3,000 applications have been received already and additional funding is needed to support all applications.  www.employpgedge.com

Support the Capital Area Food Bank. CAFB has purchased as much food in the past few weeks as they normally purchase in an entire year. They have already provided thousands of boxes of food to District 3 residents in need. www.capitalareafoodbank.org/donate

At New Carrollton Station, Metro is seeking to update the master plan as part of a joint development with Urban Atlantic that would add two new building sites to create an urbanized town center and more walkable community.  To accommodate the expansion, Metro would close the surface parking lots on the east side of the station and replace the County parking garage with a new, larger Metro garage.
