Dear Friends,
The Prince
George's County Council begins
budget hearings
and work sessions today. As you know, due to the Coronavirus, we are meeting virtually.
Fr
iday the County Council launched an eComment portal to provide residents with access and opportunity to provide testimony at budget hearings and Council sessions.
Today we will hold at 4:30 p.m. we will hold the WSSC budget public hearing. The M-NCPPC budget p
ublic hearing, including the Department of Parks & Recreation, will take place at 5:00 p.m.
The Council will hold hearings for the Prince George's County operating and capital improvement program budgets at 5:00 p.m. on May 4 and May 11. We will review all agency budgets in Committee of the Whole instead of our standing committees this year. View that schedule here.
Below I've included links to the Fiscal Year 2021 proposed budgets. Please note these documents reflect the expectations as of March and to not reflect the economic challenges we are now facing due to COVID-19. The Council anticipates receiving proposed changes from the County Executive in light of COVID-19 shortly.
Prince George's County Proposed Operating Proposed Operating Budget
The County Council is required by state law to pass a budget by June 1.
In challenging economic times such as these, resident input is more important than ever. I anticipate we have difficult decisions ahead of us.
Our new eComment portal will
facilitate public participation in virtual Council sessions. The portal enables residents to register electronically to speak on agenda items scheduled for public hearing or to submit a comment or letter into the official public record.
This new online portal is new for all of us, so I deeply appreciate your patience.
To speak at an upcoming public hearing, please take some time prior to the hearing to create an account and understand the process. When you do create an account be sure to check your spam folder for the confirmation email.
Overall instructions can be found here. Please read and following the steps outlined here and here. (Also on the flyers on the right.)
For those unable to use the eComment portal, comments/written correspondence may be emailed to:
[email protected]
or faxed to (301) 952-5178. All testimony and comments received by the deadline will become part of the public record of the meeting.
Testimony and comments will not be accepted via social media or by telephone/voice mail message.
All Council public meetings, including budget worksessions and public hearings are streamed live (and then archived for future viewing) online on
the
County Council Video
page.
I welcome and encourage robust participation in our legislative and budget processes during this unprecedented time.
