H&A Update

The world is certainly very different from 3 months ago when we sent our last newsletter!  We hope you and your loved ones are healthy and safe at home as much as possible. We're all well and following the best practices to stay that way.
Giving Back - 50th Annual Earth Day

This year we recognized Earth Day, held on April 22, by donating a percentage of sales to several local organizations that serve the earth and care for its people.

*     Raritan Headwaters Association For over 60 years, they have upheld a promise to protect the land and water. We rely on their vigilance.
*    Musconetcong Watershed Association Dedicated to protecting and i
m proving the quality of the Musconetcong River and its Watershed, including its nat ur al and cultural resources. They're practically in our back yard!
*     Project Self-Sufficiency of Sussex County empowers vulnerable families to achieve stability and self-sufficiency
through comprehensive programs that build self-confidence and self-reliance. This program is near and dear to many in our community.
*     Warren Hills Regional High School Robotics Association made and donated almost 27,000 protective face shields to local hospitals and care centers . One of our employees brought this to our attention and we thought it was such a worthy way to keep our local medical professionals safe in this time of health crisis.

We continue our Sustainability Pledge working toward zero waste with composting and recycling hard-to-recycle office supplies through TerraCycle. Here are some actions we can all take:
*     Support nurseries that sell native plants in your region, which in our area includes Wild Ridge Plants and Well-Sweep Herb Farm. Our employees are excited to fill their backyards with beneficial native herbs and pollinators this spring.
*    Support COVID-19 relief efforts in your local community.
*     Clean up! Though many organized events have been cancelled or transitioned to "virtual" cleanups, we can clean up our little corners and do so while socially distancing.
*     Recycle everything with TerraCycle brigades

Giving Back - Herb Day - Supporting AHG

Celebrated each year the first Saturday in May, Herb Day is a coordinated series of indepe ndently produced public educational events that celebrate the importance of herbs and herbalism.

Although this year many events were cancelled or postponed, we still observed Herb Day by matching a percentage of that weekend's sales to support t he American Herbalists Guild's Annual Symposium.

And we are excited to announce that your support has helped us reach the goal of supporting the event at the highest donor leve l.

  H&A in the News!

Industry trade publications often ask H&A to comment on different topics, which lately have included the impact of COVID-19.

In keeping with the increase in video meetings while we all try to stay connected, several of these were conducted virtually. Some of them are downright inspiring!

Product Reformulation

From time to time David reformulates products if an ingredient is not available in the quality we require. The sudden high demand for immune support products began in the late winter/early spring growing and harvesting cycle when fresh herb availability was limited, so he skillfully made some minor changes. For example, we will be using Echinacea angustifolia root rather than fresh Echinacea purpurea flowers which will not be available until July. This maintains the efficacy of the products.
David Winston's Herbal Jeopardy-Spring Edition Contest

Answer correctly & you will be entered into a drawing to win a H&A "Coupon" worth $50.00 towards future purchases of our quality products.
Our Winter Contest Winner was Laura Corichi, but Congrats to all who answered Andrographis, botanical name "Andrographis paniculata " .
