Dear parents and guardians,

We have very exciting news to share with you this evening. The City School District of New Rochelle was contacted by “Method Test Prep,'' who is willing to provide online ACT/SAT training for free to all New Rochelle students and teachers! Tomorrow, you will receive important login information. During the trial, which goes through July 15, 2020, the CSNDR will be entitled to an account for every student and teacher. It is very simple for students to create an account. Students will use a single sign-up link and referral code through a provided URL that is unique to New Rochelle, along with a referral code. Students will be able to use this platform and program on any Internet-capable device such as a computer or tablet or phone. We are very grateful for this partnership. Students will have access to online tutoring and assistance made possible through “Method Test Prep.” Thank you!

I am also very pleased to report that we have continued to conduct important interviews through the period of time in which the schools are closed. We have been conducting online interviews for both the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources position and for the New Rochelle High School Principal position. We are very excited about the quality of candidates that we have been interviewing. We look forward to sharing additional information with the community as this process unfolds.

Many of you have submitted questions through our FAQ platform. We are pleased to say that each question was answered through March 20, 2020. Here you can find a link to all of the questions asked and their answers. You will find that there are a number of redundant questions. We believe that it is important to answer every question posed to the district. Once the full list of questions has been posted on our district page for a week, we will simplify the list and create a secondary list of unique questions. Both lists will be available on the district website until schools resume. We will continue to monitor questions coming into our FAQ platform and when necessary update the list.

Chromebooks continue to be available for students to pick up at the New Rochelle High School for middle and high school students. Please email chromebook@nredlearn.org  to receive the form that you need to fill out prior to picking up a Chromebook. Pick up times are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. We have a plan to ensure that social distancing is practiced while distributing the Chromebooks.
●        For those who arrive by car please remain in your cars.
●        If you are a walk-in, we will have cones set up 6ft apart so that everyone knows where to stand as the line moves. 
●        Please have the form pre-filled which you can receive by emailing chromebook@nredlearn.org

We continue to seek a partnership with any internet vendor willing to provide free internet service to our student body. To date, no one has answered our call to action . We hope to have this matter resolved shortly and believe that local vendors will soon see the critical necessity for providing this basic service during these very difficult times.

Both President Moselhi and I spoke to executives at Verizon. We were told that FiOS could not be provided because fiber optic cables were not available in all areas of New Rochelle. When we asked about individual hotspots which could be provided to students and then returned at the end of the crisis, we were told that they would have to take this under advisement and get back to us. We have not been able to reach any executive at Optimum Online.

Many members of the community have contacted President Moselhi and me to ask for additional fun resources for students who find themselves indoors more often than usual. Here are a few wonderful resources that we were able to compile courtesy of News Channel 8:
Websites:  Khan Academy ,  National Geographic Kids ,  ST Math  and  Duolingo , also offer free online courses. 
Education.com  is offering free worksheets for preschool through 5 th  grade students. 
Skype a Scientist  is another interactive approach to learning. The service matches families to a scientist for a live video Q&A session.

The central administration team and the Board of Education remains committed to ensuring that our community and student body remains informed and stimulated through these unprecedented times. Whenever possible we will seek out creative and productive solutions to questions that the community has posed.

Tenemos noticias muy interesantes para compartir con ustedes esta tarde. ¡El Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de New Rochelle fue contactado por "Method Test Prep", que está dispuesto a proporcionar capacitación ACT / SAT en línea de forma gratuita a todos los estudiantes y maestros de New Rochelle!
