Patient Safety Awareness Week

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Patient Safety Awareness Week (PSAW) was March 10-16. The annual event creates awareness on the importance of safety in healthcare. For the Michigan Health and Hospital Association (MHA) and the MHA Keystone Center, Patient Safety is a year-long event. The Michigan Osteopathic Association would like to congratulate MHA on their tremendous success on
providing education, research and knowledge-sharing events that strive toward improved care and safety.
PSAW focuses on the organizational efforts being made to make healthcare safer for Michigan residents and beyond. Hospitals are encouraged to share their improvement activities and success stories on social media using the hashtags #patientsafety and #PSAW.

Congratulations on a well-deserved honor for Taran Silva! The AACOM's Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP) 2019 National Student DO of the Year. Among a list of accomplishments, Lt. Silva was the Student Government Association President at MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, served as the MOA Student Representative on the Board of Trustees and has been on 8 trips as part of the international medical mission programs at #MSUCOM.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening
and Healthy Lifestyle Services for Low-Income Women
The Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BCCCNP) provides free breast and cervical cancer screening services to low-income women. This may include follow-up care, and cancer treatment if needed.
Low-income women 21-64 years old are eligible.
Uninsured and under-insured women can be helped by the program.

The Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for Women Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN) Program helps low-income women understand their chronic disease risk factors and make healthy lifestyle choices with a focus on nutrition, physical activity, medication adherence, and smoking cessation.
Low-income women 40-64 years old are eligible.
Uninsured or insured can be helped by the program.

McLaren: Redesigning the future of health care
In December of 2018, McLaren Health broke ground on a new, $450 million hospital at the corner of Forest and Collins roads, just off the Michigan State University Campus. The new health care campus is the largest investment McLaren Health Care has ever made.

12th annual Global Outreach Peru Program Looking for doctors
The MSUCOM's 12th annual Peru Global Outreach Program will be arriving in Lima on August 10th for a host of activities including traveling up the Amazon.
The program is looking for doctors who want to join in the this amazing experience. MSU will provide physicians, including residents, with health and liability insurance coverage during the Elective (August 10-24, 2019).
