New York State employers (including churches)
must provide sexual harassment prevention training

The deadline is quickly approaching for New York State employers to provide employees with sexual harassment prevention training upon hire and on an annual basis. For this year, the training must be completed by all current employees and new hires by October 9, 2019. Employers are encouraged to track completion of training through attendance sheets or some other manner for audit purposes.

In addition to the sexual harassment prevention training requirement, each employer is required to have a sexual harassment prevention policy in place. This policy should be shared with employees prior to the training.

Reaching out
A prayer for the beginning of the school year

If you know a student beginning a new school year, you might want to share this litany asking God to be there each step of the way.

'Go with God' is a common benediction. Isaiah 41:10 tells us to "Fear not, for I am with you." Children facing first days from pre-school to college can take comfort in knowing that God is with us every moment. This United Methodist prayer reminds us that we can see God when we look for God's love in others.

We are stewards of the Earth

When we become better stewards of God's gift of water, we help assure that everyone has access to this precious natural resource.

A Christian calling: Save water, save lives

During the summer months, many United Methodists in the United States and elsewhere spend time near water. We camp by a lake, vacation at the beach, or lounge by a pool. Water is so readily accessible we can take it for granted.

For much of the world, however, the search for clean, safe water is an everyday chore that never takes a holiday.

All in the Family

Chat as a family about how to handle tasks we wish we didn't have to do, and how we should always try our best, as if we're doing it for God.

Spend family time to talk about work

Sometimes we are asked to do things we don't want to do. It could be math homework, traveling for work or practicing a musical instrument. When that happens, it is tempting to just do the minimum so we can be done quickly and get back to something more enjoyable. The Bible tells us, however, that we should always do our best, as if we were doing it for God.

Get Them Talking is a series of monthly resources from United Methodist Communications, to help families lead conversations about issues of faith during dinner, devotions, a drive or anytime.

In this episode, we asked the Rev. Alfred Day to talk about the Biblical idea of the end times. Day leads the General Commission on Archives and History of The United Methodist Church.

Reaching New Disciples: Resources at your fingertips

The Lewis Center is committed to helping congregations reach more people, younger
people, and more diverse people. There was a day when congregations could simply open their doors and wait for people to find their way in. But that era is rapidly fading. Growing congregations today are embracing a new paradigm of evangelism, finding innovative ways to connect with their neighbors, extend hospitality, and take church to the community!

Oberammergau Passion Play tour planned for 2020

Since 1634, the most famous Passion Play in the world has taken place in Oberammergau. Back in the 1600's, the people of Germany suffered through a terrible plague in which many died. The people prayed and God released them from this plague. The people promised in thanks to God to perform the Passion Play every 10 years on the zero years. This tradition has been maintained for over 380 years and will continue for the 42nd time in 2020. The village of Oberammergau of 5,000 people performs this passion play with more than 2,000 villagers participating. Roughly 500,000 visitors will come to see this play in 2020. Educational Opportunities, which conducts tours to the Holy Land, is offering tours that include this passion play. Rev. David Schlansker is planning to serve as a host on one of these tours. If you or your church is interested in learning more., contact Rev. David Schlansker at 518-227-5535  or [email protected]
