APRIL 2019
Congratulations to all our players that have participated through an arduous indoor competitive season, and qualified for the various Selections, Provincial, and the recent National events. A special mention for Vicky Mboko's outstanding performance in the U18 Nationals in Toronto last week (see below).  Our initiative of "Growing  The Game " (see below) - which involves initiating Spring programs, clinics and Summer camps in various community clubs around the GTA gets underway late April and early May at the following clubs;  Bridlewood Tennis Club, Mimico Tennis Club, Toronto Tennis City, Burlington Tennis Club, Milton Tennis Club and at the Cedar Springs Club.
The All Canadian ITF Junior Championship [now a J3 event] which concluded at the Cedar Springs Club on Friday the 12th, showcased exciting tennis from highly rated Canadian and International young players. ACE Burlington players Sasha Gorchanyuk and Aryannah Arseneault had a great tournament [see below.] We also look forward to the upcoming ACE Super Series event at Easter, and the U10/U12/U14 Team Events which we will be hosting at the Cedar Springs Club in May.

STELLAR PERFORMANCE BY
VICKY MBOKO AT THE 
NATIONALS
ACE's 12 year old standout Vicky Mboko had an incredible run last week : coming through the Qualifying Event, and charging all the way to the finals of the Rogers U18 Junior Indoor Nationals at the Mayfair East Tennis Club in Markham. Vicky, who was seeded #1 in the Qualifying,  started her impressive six-match winning streak with decisive 6-1, 6-1, and 6-2,6-0 wins respectively over Maya Estinvil and Maya Perkucin in the Qualifying. She progressed to the the main draw where she had another win over Ontario's Maya Perkucin by a 6-0, 7-5 margin; this was followed by a three-set round of 16 victory over Love-Star Alexis of Quebec. In the Quarter Finals Vicky had a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over BC's Stefanie Faith Frias Da Silva  (Stefanie had upset the top seed Sarah-Maude Fortin in the previous round). Vicky continued with some excellent tennis In the semi-final to beat 3rd seeded Corina Spasojevic of Ottawa 7-5,6-1. The finals was a hard-fought affair in which Vicky lost to Anabelle Xu (Quebec) by a tight 6-4,7-6 margin. Congrats to Anabelle , and congratulations to Vicky and Coach Mike Hall on a tremendous showing!!

Nemanja Stefanovic also had a great showing at the U16 Nationals in Montreal, finishing in 6th place and receiving the Sportsmanship Award. Below is a photo of Nemanja as well as the U12 team with Anna Tabunshchyk who had a very strong performance finishing 12th in the U12 category.

ONLINE PARENT PORTAL
The parent portal is now live on the Tennis Canada web site. 
It is conveniently located in the Tournament drop down menu below Calendar and Rankings. Here is the direct link:   http://www.tenniscanada.com/parent-portal/
 
The portal is designed to be a user friendly way for parents of competitive players of all levels to easily access pertinent information. It's divided into 8 sections including the following:

  5. Understanding the Competitive Environment
  6. Navigating the Player Pathway

The Fair Play section includes 3 Fair Play documents (downloadable in 8.5 x 11 and 11 x 17 formats) that can be used as needed. The dynamic portal will have new information and resources added periodically, and will soon be added to the TPA web site.

Ethan Tiong - who is in his 7th year with Ace - has become a staple at Ace Burlington. His younger, 10 year old sister Clara, is following closely in his footsteps - and is currently in the Provincial U12 program. We decided to talk to the Tiong family about their involvement with Ace over the years.

I've had so many conversations with parents over the last few years about tournaments and how much they should play. How much their child needs to win and what their win/loss ratio should look like. The article below highlights a lot of what I feel is the right pathway for young tennis players, especially point #3. If your child is s competitive player or you are striving for them to be competitive, this article is a must read.

ACE and Cedar Springs Club are hosting a series of events which has started with the ITF April 6 -13th.

ACE Burlington's Oleksandra Gorchanyuk had a fine tournament reaching the semi-finals of the singles and doubles categories, defeating the 4th and 8th seeds in singles play and teaming up with Marina Stakusic in the doubles in which they also defeated the 4th seed. Arianna Arseneault also had a strong showing reaching the quarter finals in singles. The ACE Super Series Spring Classic will be held at the club April 18th - 22nd, followed by the U10 - U14 Team Championships starting May 4th with the U14 category followed by the U12 on May 11th and the U10 on May 18th.

We had a terrific turnout for the Mind Games Workshop hosted at Toronto Tennis City March 31st, 2019 for the U9-U12 athletes.

Empower Aces also held multiple integrated sessions for ACE Burlington U12 Provincial  athletes before Spring Break.

ACE has been a Gold Designated Tennis Development Center 18 years in a row.  The TDC "Go for Gold" Program is a "support program" designed by Tennis Canada to work with junior competitive development programs across Canada. The TDC program is a key component of the overall player development plan of Tennis Canada and its mission of developing world class players. The TDC program designates indoor clubs/academy's meeting minimum program requirements with a gold, silver, bronze or basic designation. 

Ace players and coaches benefit from the Ace Replay system which provides them with the opportunity to access a video replay of the player's practice, lesson or match play. The Ace Replay system provides an opportunity for match analysis, an understanding of player's behavior in pressure situations and evaluation through analytics.
