Chamber Welcomes New Program Director
On Monday, June 1st the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Steve Hensley as Program Director.

Steve will facilitate all aspects of the Saginaw County Young Professionals Network.

Chamber President/ CEO Veronica Horn had this comment; "We are very happy to have Steve on our team, he makes a great addition and is eager to get to work making a difference in Saginaw County."

Steve has served on the YPN Steering Committee and has volunteered extensively in the community from serving on the Boards of Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan/City Rescue Mission of Saginaw and Pit & Balcony Theatre to acting as a Personal Finance Mentor and Titan Challenge Coach for Junior Achievement of North Central Michigan among many others.

He has a work history in banking and credit union management, and he has a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Saginaw Valley State University where he is currently completing his Master of Arts degree in Public Administration.

Pure Michigan Business Connect Develops Free COVID-19 Procurement Platform
Platform helps connect those businesses in need of access to PPE – including face masks, face shields, gloves, goggles and other materials as necessary to ensure the health and safety of their employees and customers – with Michigan businesses that have supplier capacity to meet that demand.
The portal is open to companies of all sizes and industries and is available for all scales of PPE demand.

Installment Payment Option Available for Business Taxpayers Deferring Sales, Use and Withholding Tax Payments
Penalties and Interest Will be Waived on Installment Balance
Business taxpayers who have deferred paying their Sales, Use and Withholding (SUW) taxes due to the COVID-19 pandemic can now participate in an installment payment option to satisfy their outstanding tax balance, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury.

In a special notice issued on May 26, 2020, the state Treasury Department is now allowing business taxpayers scheduled to make SUW tax payments for the February, March, April and May tax periods on June 20, 2020 – including quarterly filers – to either pay their outstanding balance in its entirety or pay their outstanding balance in monthly payments over the next six months. Penalties and interest will be waived on those deferred payments.

The Michigan Small Business Development Center – Great Lakes Bay Region just launched a new tool to help businesses navigate all of the questions they have about reopening. Specifically it explains what businesses should do to minimize risk (i.e. legal, liability, lost business). It’s on a platform called Articulate 360. This interactive presentation makes information easier to digest than reading a long document or PowerPoint presentation and enables each business to access the information they need, when they need it. Governor Rescinds Safer at Home Order, Moves Michigan to Phase Four of the MI Safe Start Plan
The governor’s order will allow retailers to reopen on June 4 and restaurants to reopen on June 8, both subject to capacity limits. Day camps for children will likewise be permitted to open on June 8. Effective immediately, groups of 100 or less will be allowed gather outdoors with social distancing. Office work that is not capable of being performed remotely can resume. And in-home services, including housecleaning services, can resume operations.

Executive Order Expands COVID-19 Testing Sites
Executive Order 2020-104 expands the types of medical personnel that can order a test, and creates a new category of community testing sites that offer testing to anyone with reason to be tested without an advance order, and without charging an out-of-pocket cost to any Michigander.

Governor Whitmer Calls on the White House to Help States with Testing, Budget Shortfalls in Testimony to Congress 
Today, in testimony delivered remotely before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, Governor Whitmer called on the federal government to help states like Michigan ensure and promote widespread testing for COVID-19. The governor also highlighted the aggressive action Michigan has taken in the fight against COVID-19, including the state’s efforts to secure personal protective equipment for frontline workers, expand testing capacity and eligibility, and address health disparities in communities of color.
