Volunteers Needed for Flood Relief Distribution Centers
The Dow GLBR Relief team is hosting eight Flood Relief Distribution Centers in the region to assist with recovery efforts. Centers will be accepting donations, as well distributing supply kits. We need Dow volunteers to help staff these distribution centers as well as to staff the warehouse at the Dow Hangar.
We would greatly appreciate your consideration to take a shift at the distribution centers. The Gladwin and Meridian centers have been short staffed, and we could really use your help. We are also in need of people who would be willing to serve as a site leader for a full day. More information below.
Volunteer Needs at each site:
- 8 volunteers per shift -- 2 shifts/day
- Shifts are 8:30 am - 12:30 pm & 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Donation drop-off is 9 am - 4 pm.
- Volunteers need to adhere to COVID guidelines.
- Temperatures taken on-site.
- Bring a face mask, gloves and social distance as needed.
- Check ROAD conditions/closures as some areas are affected. Know route prior to leaving and plan drive time accordingly.

We are in need of individuals willing to volunteer for a full day as a site leader. The responsibilities include volunteer coordination, communication with the warehouse team and to provide overall guidance and direction for the day. Volunteer Opportunities with United Way Saginaw
United Way of Saginaw County is working with community partners in response to the flooding in Saginaw County and the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteer opportunities may range from virtual opportunities to boots on the street activities. We are working with the Emergency Operations Manager and other community partners to identify the greatest needs.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We will be working with these partners to identify and address the highest needs and assist the most vulnerable members of our community especially the elder, the young and the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) populations.

MIOSHA Launches New Site for COVID-19 Workplace Safety
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) within the Dept. of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) launched a new online COVID-19 Workplace Safety site –
Michigan.gov/COVIDWorkplaceSafety – the site provides guidance and a toolkit of resources to keep workplaces safe as sectors of the state’s economy reopen.
With the continued risk of COVID-19 spread, everyone in the workplace must take necessary precautions. The site includes MIOSHA issued guidelines, posters for employees and customers, factsheets, educational videos and a
reopening checklist – all of which will help businesses safely reopening their doors.
In addition to the general workplace guidelines for
employer and
employees, MIOSHA provided further clarification on necessary steps several other sectors must take when reopening, including:
- Engineering controls
- Administrative controls
- Hand hygiene and environmental surface disinfection
- Personal protective equipment
- Health surveillance
- Training
- Incorporating the latest guidance for COVID-19 from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Governor’s Executive Orders
Best practices that employees should follow to be vigilant in protecting themselves from exposure to COVID-19:
- Wash hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water,
- Limit contact with others by remaining six feet apart,
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and tools routinely,
- Stay home if you or someone in your household is sick,
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, and
- Practice self-screenings to check for any abnormal/new symptoms.

Tax Foreclosure Redemption Deadline Extended to June 29
Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-106 extending the deadline for Michigan residents to pay back taxes and avoid foreclosure on their property during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic to June 29, 2020. The Order takes effect immediately.

Governor Creates Michigan Workforce Development Board
Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-107 creating the Michigan Workforce Development Board.
"This board will be vital in continuing efforts to grow both our workforce and our economy," said Governor Whitmer. "This group of leaders will be instrumental in bringing together efforts and partners from key industries to expand our workforce, economy, and educational attainment efforts."
Last year Governor Whitmer committed Michigan to reaching 60% postsecondary educational attainment by 2030. The new Board will be an essential part of that effort ensuring Michiganders can acquire the skills and credentials needed to secure and advance jobs with family-sustaining wages, as well as give job providers the access they need to skilled workers.
The Board is responsible for the development and continuous improvement of the workforce development system in Michigan acting as an advisory body and assisting the Governor with development, implementation, and modification of Michigan's four-year state plan.
The Board will consist of the Governor or her designee, the director of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity or his designee, and the following appointees:
- Steve Claywell, Battle Creek, President of Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council.
- Awenate Cobbina, Detroit, Vice President of Business Affairs for Palace Sports and Entertainment, Chair of MEDC Executive Committee.

Following the massive flooding in the Midland area resulting from the breach of the Edenville and Sanford Dams, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is providing tips to assist residents when working with insurance companies to file a claim and repair damages.
