One Book, Many Communities Program Kicks Off
Activities in the region-wide One Book, Many Communities program are going on now! Libraries across the area are presenting programs based on the novel selected for the community-wide read, The Widows by Jess Montgomery. From the history of brewing in southwest Ohio, panel discussions with female first-responders, book discussions and demonstrations of 1920's crafts and cooking, all of the programs taking place highlight different aspects touched upon in The Widows

The region-wide One Book, Many Communities program kicks-off on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Urbana University (Sara Landess Room of the Student Center) with Women in Law: A Panel Discussion .
This, like all OBMC activities, is FREE and open to all. Urbana University is located at 579 College Way, Urbana, OH 43078.

Be sure to pick up a One Book, Many Communities program booklet at any participating library and bring it with you to any of the events, as a start on The Widows Library Trail . Complete information about all of the One Book, Many Communities programs can be found in the OBMC booklet, available at all participating libraries, or on their websites. Visit our library's website to learn more.
Having Trouble Finding AR Information for Your Children's Books?
While our library typically provides the Accelerated Reader (AR) information in the first few pages of an AR book, some books are too new to receive an AR rating. Thankfully, there are a few resources that can help determine these AR points and AR levels of books without having to look at each book on our shelves.

If you have an iOS 12.1 or later, or an Android 4.4 and up, there is a free app called Points Scan that you can download. Points Scan lets you scan a book's bar code and you receive the AR information. If the book does not have a bar code, Points Scan also includes both a title and author search. This app is compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices along with Android phones. Visit the Straight Path Apps website to learn more.

There is also a website that provides the needed AR information. You can search for book titles based on authors, topics or titles of books. The book details are listed with everything from the interest level to the word count and rating, while also providing the AR points. Visit www.arbookfind.com to learn more.

Our library staff is also available to assist with locating AR information. Stop by our library and one of our staff members can assist you.
The Mills Music Mission
Our library partnered with the Wright State University chapter of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and gave back to the community by performing for residents living at SpringMeade Health Center of Tipp City on February 15, 2020.

Fraternity members, which includes WSU students and community members, performed instrumental and vocal music to dozens of residents.

Spring 2020 Story Time Sessions Coming Soon!
The Spring Story Time sessions start the week of March 16 and continue through April 24. There will be no story times during the week of Tipp City Schools' Spring Break, March 23-27, but the library will be operating under our regularly scheduled business hours. Registration is available on the Children's tab  on our website after 10 a.m. on Monday, March 9.

Baby Cuddle Time is for 6-18 month old babies and a caregiver. These story time sessions are held on Thursday mornings from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Area. We are also holding Baby Sign Language Classes on March 12, 19, & 26 from 10:15-10:45 a.m. If you sign up for Baby Cuddle Time, you are automatically enrolled in the Baby Sign Language Class.

Toddler Tales is for 18- 40 month old children and a caregiver. These story time sessions are held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-10:15 or 10:30-11:15 a.m in the Meeting Room downstairs.

Preschool Story Hour is for children ages 3-½ - 5 years and a caregiver. These story time sessions are held on Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m in the Meeting Room downstairs.
Baby Sign Language Story Time
Thursdays, March 5, 12, 19 & 26
10:15 - 10:45 a.m.

The library is pleased to offer free sign language classes for babies and their parents/caregivers for a limited time! The classes are taught by LaRita Condon Speech/Language Pathologist from Condon Communication Specialists and is co-sponsored by Cathi Hall from Topsy Turvy Toys.

Baby Sign Language Story Time will meet in the Children’s Area on the main level. Registration is required to participate. Sign-up on our website under the Children's tab  on our website beginning Tuesday, February 25. Participants may sign up for one class or all classes by clicking on each date.

Baby signing is different from American Sign Language and helps increase babies ability to communicate before they are able to speak. This leads to fewer tantrums and frustration in both parents and babies, as sign language allows babies to express their wants and needs before they learn words through simple signing. There will be a short play time at the end of class for parents to practice what they learned and chat with the other parents and caregivers.

In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2, children ages 2-11 are invited to try our matching contest with well-known characters from books by Dr. Seuss. Fill out the entry form and turn it in at the Front Desk for a Dr. Seuss bookmark.

This month, students will learn about artist Henri Rousseau, most well-known for his jungle paintings. Participants will use crayon, watercolors and collage to create a “Tiger in the Jungle” picture. Registration is required. Visit the  Children’s Program tab   on our website for details on each month’s artist and also to register for the program. Thanks to Tipp City Area Arts Council for their support on this program.
