Principal's Message
Greetings,
One week after graduating the 97 th class from Loyola Catholic School, we say good-bye to our PS-11 students for the 2017-2018 school year and peak ahead to the 2018-2019 school year.

I think it is safe to say this summer will have a little less shuffling going on with our classrooms and school. Two years ago many of you were helping out shuffling many classrooms around with renovations taking place. Last year, we moved an entire building to our current facility. This summer will have a bit of normalcy to it as our movements will be minimal. I am sure many who were involved with those two moves are breathing a sigh of relief. We are, too!

I think 2017-2018 was a learning opportunity for us as we consolidated into one campus. There are many things we will be able to improve upon or even were able to improve during the year. Some things will take some more planning and ultimately some will remain an issue until we have a bit more space in certain areas, including competition spaces and learning spaces for our activities and fine arts. It is our hope we will soon need a few more classrooms for expansion of some of our grades and sizes. We aren't quite there yet, but are working on it!

Unfortunately, we have to say good-bye to some friends and staff members, as we do every year. We are saying good-bye to Mrs. Emily Mack. She is moving with her family to the Quad Cities area. We will be actively seeking a replacement for her, albeit in the third grade for next year because of our numbers and sections. We wish her well in a search for a great school in the Quad Cities.

Ms. Bridget Prehn will be moving on from Loyola and is looking to take the next step in her Spanish and teaching career preparing for Higher Ed. We wish her well and know she will be missed by our high students and staff.

We say good-bye to Mrs. Rhonda Martinka. She is moving up north, to Bemidji specifically and we will miss her at the front door and front lines of our school. Rhonda brought such a welcoming presence to our school and I know many of you were so positively impacted by her. We wish Rhonda and Doug the best up north! The front offices will continue to be staffed by Mrs. Colleen Pankonin and Mrs. Ashley Braulick full-time next year.

I am planning on sending out updates throughout the summer,  in hopes of saving this newsletter from getting too lengthy to read. We will have a bunch of stuff happening this summer and we'll keep you up-to-date with all things Loyola so stay tuned!

As always, I want to say thank you to our staff, parents, students, alumni and supporters for a nother wonderful year of education at Loyola Catholic School. I am very honored to be a part of this school community and am hopeful you all have a blessed and safe summer!

Elementary News
Parents and Guardians of current 4th grade parents:
Last week when the students got to try all of the instruments there were a lot of great sounds and a lot of excitement! Our next step is to get the rest of those who are interested in doing band next year signed up for instruments!  Please click  here  and complete the Google Form. Please mark both the student's first and second choice of instrument. We will do our best to see that everyone gets their first choice, but we also need to consider instrumentation of the full  band (Please note we request that students have 2 years of piano before selecting percussion, those that haven't will be considered on a case by case basis)  Once the signup is completed I will send an email confirming your student's instrument. That email will also have instructions and guidance on obtaining instruments and other materials that will be needed for  band
Thank you, please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions!

AR STAR READER RECOGNITION
This week we held our annual Accelerated Reader Star Reader Award Ceremony. The top 20 readers were acknowledged, as well as all students who met their AR goal throughout the school year. The celebration wrapped up with the annual Silly String Extravaganza with Mrs. Corcoran and the students who earned more AR reading points than she did this year.

Loyola students produced some impressive reading stats this year:
Students in 1st through 6th grade read 9,484 books. That averages over 62 books per student and totals 64 million, 177 thousand and 292 words, which is 8 million, 138 thousand and 1 word more than last year! What a wonderful job everyone! Thank you to the parents and teachers that encouraged students to read.
