Summer Reading is on the Way!
We're putting together our summer reading lists for all ages, from picture books to young adult. Our lists feature the best new paperbacks, including graphic novels and non-fiction, plus a few irresistible hardcovers.
To make it even more fun, we're setting up a summer reading challenge with prizes! More details coming soon.
To whet your appetite, here are a few highlights from our forthcoming lists.
Young Adult
Short but powerful. Jack lives on a remote farm, where Joseph is placed as a foster child. At only thirteen, Joseph is withdrawn and damaged, but he is also a young father who has never seen his daughter, Jupiter, and the two boys set out to find her.
Heartwarming and funny. Looking for a topic for a scholarship essay, Lisa befriends sixteen-year-old Solomon, who is agorophobic and hasn't left his house in three years. Her project becomes a friendship revealing unexpected secrets.
Surface Tension

Fantastic YA action novel, full of twists and turns. A high school senior stumbles upon an act of terror, but after he loses his memory, the FBI refuses to believe him and the terrorists want him dead.
Grades 7 & 8
During the time of the Jim Crow south in the 1950s, young African American Rose Lee Carter can't wait to escape the bloodshed by moving north to live with her mother, but the violent death of a teenager makes her wonder if she should stay and fight.
Fascinating and fun. This book is packed with crazy nature facts--but can you figure out which are for real and which have been made up?
Grades 5 & 6
A story told in verse about finding your voice and being heard. The graduating fifth grade class of Emerson Elementary wants to save their school from being torn down for a supermarket.
The Wild Robot Escapes

Grades 3 & 4

Highly recommended. An inviting and effective story about fitting in. Lauren's Autism Spectrum Disorder means she can misread social signals and doesn't always react as people expect. Somehow she must learn how to understand others, while not losing her own personality.
Grades 1 & 2 (Early Readers)
Spooky fun in which two very different boys catch ghosts. Desmond Cole is a fearless 8-year old constantly looking for ghosts and monsters, while his new best friend is afraid of everything.
Elephant & Piggie Like Reading: The Itchy Book by LeUyen Pham
Hilarious and charming early reader, fully approved by Elephant & Piggie. All the dinosaurs have an itch. But dinosaurs do not scratch! How are they to relieve their itching?
Picture Books
Witty and interactive, this book for preschoolers includes just enough optical illusions to keep it interesting for older readers while the silly text makes it fun for all ages.
Beautifully illustrated and great fun. Check out the clues and guess which animal it is! Fun animal facts included at the back.

Are You Ready For Independent Bookstore Day?!
Join us on Saturday, April 28th for the party that takes place at Indie Bookstores across the country!
We'll be celebrating with ten local authors who will be roaming the store, talking to you and your kids, and giving you book suggestions and recommendations. (Of course we'll let them sign books too!)
We'll also have activities, including a
kids' coloring table and storytelling. Join us for the fun from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
