May 21, 2019

Dear Friends,

Please join me on Thursday, May 23, for an important Town Hall meeting with Congressman Anthony Brown regarding Governor Hogan's proposal to widen and toll the Capital Beltway. Please click on the invitation for details and to RSVP.

In early April I sent a detailed e-newsletter discussing this project as well as Governor Hogan's MAGLEV project and more. You can read that here

It is incredibly important that we make our voices heard about these proposed projects.

Thank you to the nearly 200 residents who attended and testified at the Council's Budget Hearings in April and May. We are deep into budget deliberations now and anticipate voting on the County's Fiscal Year 2020 Budget on Wednesday, May 29.

Even as budget work is going on, important legislation is moving forward. I was proud to propose CB-4-2018, which passed unanimously, to support farmers markets across Prince George's County by ensuring our fire and inspection regulations more appropriately match what farmers markets actually are, instead of holding them to the same regulations that large festivals and carnivals must meet. I'm incredibly grateful to the Prince George's Food Equity Council, the  Food Justice Coalition of 20743, and numerous market managers for their support of this legislation. We are lucky to have farmers markets across Prince George's County. Check out locations and dates here.

Thank you to all those who attended my annual Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math (STEAM) Day at the College Park Aviation Museum on May 5. It was a fantastic afternoon of hands-on activities for all! From the NASA Photo Booth to Terrapin Works 3D printer to learning about the Tuskegee Airman to art with Art Works Now and College Park Arts Exchange, there was truly something "extra" for everyone! You won't want to miss this e vent next year!

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend another event that will have something for everyone -- the first-ever Trolley Trail Day on Saturday, June 8. The Troley Trail is the hiker/biker trail which connects College Park, Riverdale Park and Hyattsville. June 8 will be an active, free fun-filled day of walking, biking, eating and shopping. Check out the schedule of events and watch for more details coming soon!
