Remembering the Fallen Heroes

Jon

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember the fallen Heroes who gave their all to defend our country.

At MCS,  we also honor and remember those who sacrifice every day through their service in the armed forces, including a number of our very own prestigious Alumni.  We hope you enjoy this #MCS30 video featuring one of our graduates Jon Weissberg, currently a Lieutenant with the United States Navy, stationed at NAWS China Lake.

Trang Nguyen
MCS
Heroes of the Week

Gina Hanson

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Trang and Gina. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

A Note to Trang Nguyen, Bookkeeper:
You are so deserving of recognition for the way in which you serve the entire MCS community! You are always willing to stop what you are working on and help others in need. You bring laughter and joy to everyone around you and your sense of humor brightens our day. You are loved and appreciated for all you bring to MCS! Enjoy your elementary parking spot next week, you are the QUEEN! Reggie

Trang often brings humor and light to situations that might be difficult without her beautiful approach and love for our parents and students. She is a joy to work with! Trang cares about always doing a great job and she does her work with grace, kindness, and discretion. Trang exemplifies the Fruits of the Spirit, as evident in how she relates to her co-workers, MCS families, new prospective families, and even our delivery people and vendors. She is a blessing to all who know and work with her! I am honored to nominate Trang as my Hero - not this week, but every week. Barbara

Gina Hanson, Math Teacher:
Gina is an out of the box thinker. She loves to find different and unique ways to teach math concepts. Her goal is to teach all learners and she really does that but trying to teach something often overwhelming in math and make it engaging. A former MCS student said to me that "I never thought I was good at math but Mrs. Hanson changed that for me." Thank you Gina for always being willing to push yourself to teach things that could be hard for students and make them engaging.
TeacherBlessingFund Teacher Blessing Fund

PTF has had a long tradition of honoring our full and part time faculty and aides through the PTF Teacher Blessing Fund. This is a collective monetary gift given voluntarily by MCS parents and then equally distributed.

Parents can give any amount, and it is presented to the teachers and aides by the room mom during the individual class Character Awards in June

Contributions to the  Blessing Fund can be given through May 30th  on-line, or by cash or check. Please see the  attached document for more specific information regarding The PTF Teacher Blessing Fund or simply give online at:  http://marinerscs.org/mcsblessingfund

Thanks for all your support for the MCS faculty in whatever way you choose to show your appreciation!

JoyFULLY,

Elementary Chapel
Elementary Chapel May 21, 2018

Our beloved ASP Director, Mrs. Angie Nakamoto, led our music worship in 1st -3rd grade chapel with her brother, Isaiah Mauga, her son Vili Nakamoto, 6th grade MCS student, and Mr. Christopher Lucas, MCS Worship and Band Director. For the third worship song, "How Great is Our God," she was joined by guest hula dancers who added an extra special expression to praising God with dance. Desiree Alford, ASP Staff, her sister, Arianne Alford, and Mishael Poti, all college students, taught three MCS girls the hula movements. MCS students are Kabi Mungai (K) and Gianna Wilson and Olivia Taylor (1st).

During a short interview time, the adults shared about using music and dance talents to worship the Lord. Polynesian dance includes three important elements: feet that represent the land, hands that represent the ocean water, and head and hair that represent the sky. Most importantly, Mrs. Nakamoto and her brother stressed the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus that helps foster in a leader the desire to create a culture of praise.

Students did a fantastic job taking on responsibilities and testing out the food. ยกQue delicioso! Many thanks to middle school culinary arts teacher, Mr. Rahm, for opening up the newly renovated kitchen, prepping the pork, and helping students jump right in!

EdTechCorner Ed Tech Corner

In this week's Ed Tech Corner, we highlight how Mrs.Thurston is combining Technology and poetry into a collaborative work created by our 8th graders. Enjoy!

Mrs. Thurston writes, "I taught the poem called Where I'm From by George Ella Lyon. Then I modeled for the students how to imitate her style by writing a poem about where I am from. Then, students wrote their own version of the "where I'm from" poem. Each class then created a group poem about Where We're From, taking one line from each of their poems to create a class version of the poem."

YWAM Host Homes Needed
Host homes are needed this summer for YWAM (Youth With A Mission) students. If you are interested, please contact Carrie Olson at [email protected]

Accommodations don't need to be fancy - floors, couches, or air mattresses are great! Hosting begins July 1 and ends July 21. 21 Project staff and participants will be kept very busy so you won't need to entertain or provide any transportation. For more information please visit www.21project.com and scroll to the very bottom of the page to find our easy host home application.

This summer YWAM is holding a missionary training school at Vanguard University called 21 Project. Participants will mostly be college students from around the country who are wanting to be trained to be campus missionaries back to their school. They are coming eager to be trained in how to live more like Jesus and to reach the lost and hurting at their university. Most staff are current full-time missionaries with YWAM. Your guests will bring amazing stories of salvations and healings as they share what God is doing in our nation and the countries of the earth. They will be sure to fill you with faith and hope for who God is!

Middle School Chapel Recap
This week in chapel we celebrated our final chapel together as a whole middle school family with something unique. Throughout the Bible God asks His people to look back, remember, and reflect upon what He has done both for them and through them. Then after doing that, He calls His people into the next step! This is exactly what we did in Chapel this week.

Each grade level had one current teacher speak into how God worked in them collectively this year and the growth that was cultivated in them. Then, a teacher from one grade above commissioned them into the next grade by speaking truths about what they are going to face in the coming year and some keys to success when faced with those challenges. Finally, each grade was prayed over by a student who spoke God's protection and promises over that grade.

6th Grade
Recap and Growth - Mrs. Bryant
Commission to 7th Grade - Mrs. Shelton
Prayer - Preston Schmidt (7th grader)

7th Grade
Recap and Growth - Mrs. Liu

Prayer - Sheya Lavin (8th grader)

8th Grade

Prayer - Hudson Wooten (7th grader)

In response to that we prayed, we thanked God, and we worshiped!
