Get to Know Horizons at DCD
Horizons at DCD brings together a terrific group of people in support of a life-changing program. Please come learn more! Join us for  coffee, pastries, and conversation in the Valentine Center  on Wednesday, December 6, 8:00-8:45 a.m. You'll have a chance to meet Meredith Laban, the program's executive director, as well as several board members, many of whom are current or former DCD parents. There will be a brief overview and history of the program followed by a description of the various ways you can get involved. RSVP to Meredith Laban at  [email protected] by December 4.
Chess Wizards winter program starts up again in January
A new session of Chess Wizards will be offered through EDP starting January 18 through March 1. The program is open to students in grades 1-5 and is held on Thursdays, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. There is a $175 fee for 7 sessions, and registration is required. By the conclusion of the program, each student will have had the chance to participate in a mini-chess tournament. Contact EDP Director Tom Nash for more information. Click here for the registration form or go online to the EDP button on the Resource Board.
Clothing Guidelines for the Holidays
With the annual Holiday Assembly just two weeks away, parents should be aware that children are required to follow the clothing guidelines for special occasions, which are outlined on page 68 of the DCD Handbook of Information. Students are required to wear coats and ties, dresses, skirts, or dress pants as well as appropriate footwear. Students who are performing will be notified by their teachers of any specific concert dress requirements. This year, black skirts will be added to the "blue blazer" closet, which is located in the Emmons Lobby outside Admissions. Parents are welcome to contribute as well as take items from this closet to meet these clothing requirements.
Need to Update Your Contact Information?
Parents should notify Laura Martinez in the front office of any changes to their contact information. She will notify the various database managers on campus to make sure the changes are made. Parents will not have access to making changes themselves to the school's database until a period next spring and summer when the databases are rolled over and updated. Parents will be notified at that time.
Be a part of DCD's parent "face book"!
Don't forget to upload your photo to Vidigami, our photo sharing system. It's easy to do, and it will be so much fun getting to know each other better! Click here to read the detailed instructions that were sent out earlier this week.
Admissions News
Help us build our community!
If you have a friend, colleague or neighbor you think might be interested in DCD, we'd love to invite them to our December 12th Off-Campus Admissions Coffee, hosted by the Schnitman family in their home in Wellesley. Please let Emilie Liebhoff know, and she will make sure they receive an invitation. Many of you have attended these coffees in the past as a prospective parent and know they are a wonderful way to hear from current parents about their DCD experience.

Season's Readings
The Nutcracker ballet is performed in hundreds of venues throughout the United States during the holiday season. Yet, few fans of this beautiful ballet know the story of the three brothers who first brought this 19th century Russian ballet to American audiences. Author Chris Barton and illustrator Cathy Gendron share the story in  The Nutcracker Comes to America (Millbrook Press).
