Starting Monday June 19th, teens/tweens entering grades 6-12 can sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program at the Reuben Hoar Library. Readers will log their hours on their online account (starting Monday, June 26th) and earn a prize and raffle ticket towards a bigger prize for every 5 hours they read for the first 25 hours. After that, participants can continue reading and earn a raffle ticket for every 5 hours after that. Determined readers will earn a special prize if they reach 100 hours. Teens/tweens will have the opportunity to earn additional raffle tickets by attending programs, writing book reviews, and completing online challenges. Final raffle prizes include books and gift cards for Starbucks, Chipotle, and the movies.
New this year, teens/tweens can earn a Summer Reading scratch ticket every day they stop by the library and check out an item. Some scratch tickets will be instant winners and those who are not will use their scratch ticket towards a special raffle! Make sure you stop by the circulation desk to pick up your scratch ticket!
Some programs that we are doing this summer include: book clubs, flower crowns, Duct tape flip flops, movie nights, coloring nights, TAG (Teen Advisory Group), Wii tournament, Young Adult Gaming League and Minecraft club. The book selection for July is Murder at a Vineyard Mansion by Philip R. Craig.
'It's particularly quiet on Martha's Vineyard this summer, since a shadowy figure called 'the Silencer' began his covert campaign of destruction -- disabling the audio systems in the homes and vehicles of selfish, music-blasting islanders. A respite from the unwanted noise suits fishing enthusiast, former cop, and sometime investigator J.W. Jackson just fine -- until a gargantuan new Chappaquiddick mansion is vandalized and a night watchman is thrown to his death off a nearby cliff. Hired by the aristocratic mother of the most likely suspect to help prove her son's innocence, J.W. starts to explore some mysterious connections linking the Vineyard's most prominent families. But digging up the dirty secrets of the island elite may only inflame a murderer who's not done killing -- and hasten J.W.'s own journey to the graveyard.' (source: Harper Collins Publishers)
The July meeting will be held on
Tuesday, July 25, at 7:00.
The Adult Book Group is taking the summer off. They will meet again on September 20.
