Upcoming Events in the Children's Room

Welcome to the new Children's Room Newsletter.
The Summer Reading Program has begun with over 300 readers signed up in the first two weeks. Please check the online calendar for all activities and to sign up for performances.

All across Massachusetts, the theme is "Build a Better World!" and in the Reuben Hoar Library Children's Room, we will read about the many ways to do this. We think you build a better world with: kindness, science, inventions, empathy, reading, new ideas......and the list goes on.......

Do you remember that we read TWO TONS of books last summer? That was 4,000 lbs. of books! This summer's challenge will be to read 5,000 lbs. of books! As you take them out, you can weigh them. That's a lot of reading, but we know our readers are always ready for a challenge!

Registration for the Summer Reading Program
began on June 19, 2017 and
reading logs began on June 26th.
You can register for activities using the Events Calendar on RHL website: www.littletonlibrary.org

Mrs. Haduch will be reading on Wednesday mornings at 11:00. This story time is drop-in
and is appropriate for children 4 years and older.

Meet Toto the Tornado Cat
July 25th at 2:00

Toto is named after the famous dog in another famous tornado story, "The Wizard of Oz," as he is a tiny survivor of the June 1, 2011, tornado that whipped through his hometown on its path of destruction from Westfield to Charlton.
Found in a tree off Route 19 a day after the twister by a tree worker, Toto was barely three weeks old, hungry and hurt.
The worker brought the kitten to the Brimfield Fire Station, where Hall was working, and he was turned over to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, which was in town to help
with larger animals trapped or injured by the tornado.
Hall and his wife Amy Waterman ended up adopting
the scrappy kitten, and the rest is history.

Come in and see this famous little cat and his owner, and the books written about TOTO!

We will either be in the Couper Room OR the Multipurpose Room depending on the number of signups. We will let you know the location in the email a day before the presentation.
