February 2018
A Message from the Board of Governors Chair

Fellow CCMs,

2017 proved to be another incredible year for the CCM. CMCI set a record number of new CCM applicants with more than 770 and another record with the number of CMs certified in a year, adding more than 540 new CCMs. These milestones demonstrate an increased awareness and importance of the CCM credential within our industry.

As the CCM program continues to grow, the Board of Governors remain focused on maintaining the CCM exam's rigor throughout 2018. CMCI is continuously reviewing and writing new questions for the exam, and the survey feedback that you provided for our recent Job Task Analysis is helping us to keep the test relevant to the latest CM trends.

One of the many reasons the CCM program is experiencing record growth is because of our CCM Champions. CCM Champions are CCMs who have been identified for their significant efforts assisting aspiring CCMs through the application process, educating current CCMs about recertification, and writing CCM exam questions. Thank you to our CCM Champions for your outstanding efforts and I encourage everyone to take part in this initiative by becoming a CCM Champion as well.

Wishing you a happy and successful 2018!

Regards,
Raymond Brady, CCM

CCM Reaches Another Milestone

The Construction Manager Certification Institute's (CMCI) Certified Construction Manager (CCM) program reached a milestone recently, having certified its 4000th Construction Manager , U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief Gregory Schulz, PE, CCM.

" I'm proud to be part of so many professionals who set the high standards for construction managers and the CM industry," said Schulz. Schulz  credits former Board of Governors chair, Larry J. Smith, CCM,
for mentoring him and getting him involved with CMAA.

Schulz's certification comes as part of a continued surge of interest in the CCM since 2012. Over the past five years, the number of construction managers certified has grown each year, reaching an all-time record of 542 new CMs certified in 2017. Also during the last five years, the total number of CCMs has grown by 132%.
Which Organizations Have the Most CCMs?

The CCM continues to grow in recognition with more than 4,000 certified CMs.  Some organizations are hesitant to recommend CM certification to their staff. Other organizations encourage their teams to become certified. Then, there are the organizations that fully embrace the culture of CM certification.

The culture of certification describes a business environment in which it is simply assumed, at all levels, that the best and most committed Construction Managers will be CCMs, and in which organizations actively and consistently support their people in obtaining and maintaining their credentials.

Certification itself is the principle standard of a professional practice, and for the Construction Management profession, the CCM is the gold standard. Find out which organizations now have the most CCMs in comparison to other industry firms and owners.
