U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Schulz becomes 4,000th Certified Construction Manager
McLean, VA - The Construction Manager Certification Institute's (CMCI) Certified Construction Manager (CCM) program reached a milestone recently, having certified its 4000th construction manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief Gregory Schulz, PE, CCM.

"It is imperative for every professional in our field to continuously train and hone their skills in order to contribute to the high standard of excellence that USACE is known for," said Schulz. "Attaining the CCM was a big milestone in my career as it enhances my professional skills necessary to manage and oversee the Japan District's construction projects. I'm proud to be part of so many professionals who set the high standards for construction managers and the CM industry."

The CCM is a certification that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has embraced as a measure of achievement in the construction management field. USACE continues to foster an environment of continuous learning and is committed to supporting and encouraging its employees who are seeking to  obtain and maintain licenses or certification in their functional areas of expertise. As one of the most respected governmental engineering organizations in the world, USACE believes in the importance of staff continuing to develop and maintain their technical competencies to ensure that the highest quality engineering services are delivered to customers worldwide. Every district is staffed with certified personnel to operate and manage complex projects.

Schulz's certification comes as part of a continued surge of interest in the CCM since 2012. Over the past five years, the number of construction managers certified has grown each year, reaching an all-time record of 542 new CMs certified in 2017. Also during the last five years, the total number of CCMs has grown by 132%.

"Owners have been key to this growth," said CMAA President & CEO Andrea S. Rutledge, CAE. "Organizations like USACE continue to encourage their staff to earn the credential and increasingly prefer to have a CCM lead their consultants' and contractors' project teams."

"It's a great time to be a CCM," Rutledge said. "Construction management is an integral part of the capital project equation. Owners emphasize effective, accountable project delivery as a key element in managing risk, and they are turning to CCMs to deliver just that."
