Dear Parent or Guardian:

As an email sent to you in April indicated (CLICK HERE TO VIEW), the district is excited to continue the expansion of the  RepMO Ready technology expansion plan this coming fall! As the plan indicates, next year's sixth graders, eighth graders, and all high school students will be given the opportunity to be assigned a student Chromebook.

Students will be able to take home their assigned device during the school year for academic use. As part of the "take-home" process, we require that a 30 minute orientation be completed by one parent/guardian.
See the table below for details.

This orientation, that can be completed online or in person, ensures that parents are aware of the device's intended use along with student expectations regarding the Chromebook. ONLINE ORIENTATION IS NOW OPEN AND AVAILABLE FOR COMPLETION! More information is below.

One of my children is currently in 8th grade.
My children are not currently in 8th grade, but one or more will be in grades 6, 8, & 9-12 next year.
If you already completed the parent orientation this year you have fulfilled the requirement of completing the orientation moving forward.  All of your children are able to take home a device next year if they are in grades 6, 8, and 9-12.

If you did not complete the parent orientation, you will need to complete one orientation. This will cover all of your children in grades 6, 8 and 9-12.

You may complete the parent orientation online through Canvas  beginning May 19th. More information will be forthcoming.

*In order to complete this online, please reference the "Automatic Enrollment in Canvas" section below.

OR

You may complete the parent orientation in person. A schedule of these trainings will be announced in the coming weeks.

*If you have multiple children that will be receiving devices during the 2017-18 school year, the parent orientation only has to be completed one time.

Online Parent Orientation through Canvas
Using the email addresses that parents/guardians provided, Canvas accounts have been created for those with students who are eligible to take home devices next school year.  Parents can now complete the Parent Orientation online within Canvas. Below are directions, and you can also view the following video.

  • To login to Canvas for the first time, parents will use the email address provided to the district as their username. The password will be the month-day-year of the oldest student in the family. As an example, if your oldest student's birthday is June 7, 2003, then the password will be 06072003. Passwords must be eight characters in length, so when attempting to log in, include zeros prior to single digit months and days.
  • When parents log in to Canvas for the first time, your Dashboard will display the Courses in which your child is enrolled. To complete the Parent Orientation, look for a specific Canvas Course.
    • Parents of a high school student should look for  RHS - 1718 - High School Students .
    • Parents of a middle school student should look for Courses based on graduation year:
      • 6th graders = MS - Class of 2024
      • 8th graders = MS - Class of 2022
  • For parents with multiple students eligible to take home devices next school year, we have two reminders:
    • Canvas will allow you to see information on all students from one Parent Observer account.
    • Parent Orientation only needs to be completed once. If you have already completed Parent Orientation, you do not need to complete it again.
  • When Parent Observer accounts were created based on email addresses provided, no first name or last names were included. Please follow this Canvas Guide to add your personal name to your Parent Observer account. You can also view the video below for directions.

  • Feel free to email questions to [email protected].
  • SCHOOL EMPLOYEES ONLY:
    • Canvas does not allow Teacher accounts and Parent Observer accounts to be the same. For this reason, Parent Observer accounts were created from personal email accounts provided to the district.
    • If you do not have a personal email account on file and you did not provide the district ETSs with a personal email account, you were not enrolled into Canvas as a Parent Observer.
    • We recommend that parents follow the instructions on this Canvas Guide to sign up as a Parent Observer using a personal email account.
Canvas Description
As a reminder, Canvas is the learning management system that the district uses.  We house all secondary courses in Canvas and students complete and submit many assignments using this tool. We also house our online RepMO Ready Parent and Student Orientation in Canvas, as mentioned above. Parent/teacher/student communication tools are also available through Canvas.

In addition, for the 2017-18 school year Canvas will house the most up-to-date student grades for secondary students. Parents can still see grades in our current Parent Portal, but those grades will not be as up-to-date and will mainly be used to send report cards at each term.
