Dear Parent or Guardian:

We will begin the next phase of the RepMO Ready technology expansion plan this coming fall! As the plan indicates, next year's sixth graders, eighth graders, and all high school students will be given the opportunity to be assigned a student Chromebook.

Students will be able to take home their assigned device during the school year for academic use. As part of the "take-home" process, we require that a 30 minute orientation be completed by one parent/guardian.
See the table below for details/

This orientation, that can be completed online or in person, ensures that parents are aware of the device's intended use along with student expectations regarding the Chromebook.

One of my children is currently in 8th grade.
My children are not currently in 8th grade, but one or more will be in grades 6, 8, & 9-12 next year.
If you already completed the parent orientation this year you have fulfilled the requirement of completing the orientation moving forward.  All of your children are able to take home a device next year if they are in grades 6, 8, and 9-12.

If you did not complete the parent orientation, you will need to complete one orientation. This will cover all of your children in grades 6, 8 and 9-12.

You may complete the parent orientation online through Canvas  beginning May 19th. More information will be forthcoming.

*In order to complete this online, please reference the "Automatic Enrollment in Canvas" section below.

OR

You may complete the parent orientation in person. A schedule of these trainings will be announced in the coming weeks.

*If you have multiple children that will be receiving devices during the 2017-18 school year, the parent orientation only has to be completed one time.

Canvas
Many of you are familiar with our district learning management system, Canvas. We house all courses in Canvas and students complete and submit many assignments using this tool. We also house our online RepMO Ready Parent and Student Orientation in Canvas. Current eighth graders use Canvas as their main grading tool and have found it to be very useful. Students can see the most up-to-date grades here and parents have easier access to grades and teacher correspondence as well. Because of the success and response of Canvas grading, we will add all secondary students next year into Canvas grading. Parents can still see grades in our current Parent Portal, but those grades will not be as up-to-date and will mainly be used to send report cards at each term.

Automatic Enrollment in Canvas
In order to enroll in Parent Orientation online and receive up-to-date grades in Canvas for next year, parents will need to be enrolled in Canvas.  Throughout the current school year many parents have already done this manually using the directions provided on our district website. Beginning in May, the district will have the ability to do a one-time-per-year bulk enrollment using a parent's primary email address that has been submitted to the district. This does not require any action by parents, the information you have provided to the district will automatically be imported into Canvas. After that bulk enrollment, parents will still be able to enroll in Canvas on their own.

To facilitate the online parent orientation, we will be automatically enrolling the email addresses parents have provided to the district that are listed as the "primary parent" and "secondary parent" into Canvas on May 18th. This means parents can complete the orientation as early as May 19th. We will also be providing quick tutorials on how to use the Canvas Parent App to stay up-to-date on grades and complete orientation.

Opt-Out of Canvas Enrollment
We do want to provide you the opportunity to opt-out of the automatic enrollment in Canvas. You will need to complete the parent orientation in person if you choose this option. In addition, you can still see grades in Parent Portal, but they will not be the most up-to-date grades. You may call the middle school or high school office and leave the opt-out request or you may email [email protected] by May 17th. We've also created a form (CLICK HERE) if you want to complete the opt-out request online.

Update/Change Email Address
You may also use any of the above listed forms of communication if you would like to change or add your email address.

If we do not hear from you by the end of the day on May 17th, we will enroll you in Canvas using the email address(es) that you have previously provided to the district.

Please continue to look at our district website, Facebook, Tiger Talk, and building newsletters for updates on Parent Orientation and RepMO Ready. To learn more about the overall RepMO Ready plan visit http://www.republicschools.org/repmoready
