Unity Principle 5: The "Take Action" Principle
Reverend Bronte Colbert
In this fourth week of our series on Unity basics we'll finish up with the Fifth Principle: "Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough. A person must also live the truth that he or she knows." Or, as someone once joyfully shouted out years ago in a Unity church in Wisconsin where Rev. Bronte attended, "IT WORKS IF YOU WORK IT!!" (The person had just gotten a huge career break from Ed McMahon.)
And it does work if we "work it." But HOW do we work it and live these laws on a daily basis? We'll explore that this week -- & we'd love to see YOU!
We are excited to have musician-singer-songwriter Matt Venuti with us this Sunday for the first time. Enjoy his music at our 11:00 service and at the Sunday 7:30 evening concert in the beautiful Healing Arts Centre. Details are below.

NEW COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM BEGINS AT UNITY ATHENS
JANUARY & FEBRUARY: Diapers for Project Safe Shelter (size 3 & up)
Join us in helping those local organizations that are doing great good in our community. Every month we will highlight and sponsor a local nonprofit by collecting items they can use and suggesting ways to donate time, items, and/or financially.
We will also focus positive thoughts and prayers around them in our Sunday services and throughout the month.
The nonprofit organization for January is PROJECT SAFE, "
a 501c3 non profit organization working to end domestic violence through prevention and educational programs, crisis intervention, ongoing supportive services for survivors of domestic violence and their children, and advocacy/ systems change work in our community." We are are collecting packages of diapers, size 3 and larger, and pull-ups for families at their shelter. You can bring the diapers to Unity Athens or take them directly to our neighbor, the Project Safe Thrift Store, and they will deliver them. Thank you!
New Member Classes will continue to be scheduled in the near future.
To be considered for membership, attend at least two classes based on the book,
The Five Principles
by Ellen Debenport. Learn more about Unity & New Thought history and Unity today, including Unity Athens. Besides reading the book, we request that you watch the film
What is New Thought
. Choose any two classes (free). The book is in our bookstore for $12. See Bronte to possibly arrange other times. Note: These classes are open to all and are a great "refresher" even if you're not becoming a member.
Coming up in February
Study the Law of Attraction with the book of the same name by Abraham-Hicks. There will be a weekly in-person study group from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings at Lynyetta's home starting February 9th and an online (Facebook) group that has just been set up. Email us at
[email protected] for details and to be added to the Facebook group.
"Life Collage with John Bowman" will meet once a month on Sundays at Unity Athens starting February 12 from 1:00 to 3:00 with time included for sharing and discussion. Suggested donation, $5 to $10.
From John: "For this first workshop we will be looking at Unity's First Principle: God is absolute good, everywhere present. To prepare for the workshop you may want to start cutting out pictures you see in magazines and other printed materials that help you feel the presence of God. Glue, scissors, magazines, poster board and other supplies will be provided so all you really have to do is be present to enjoy an afternoon with friends new and old."
The Unity Athens Annual "Town Hall" Membership Meeting will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26 after the service, starting at about 12:45. Lunch is included at no cost. All are welcome to participate, comment, ask questions, and learn about our growth plans, financial status and new Unity Expansion Ministry requirements.
