Handmade Dishcloths to Go to Honduras 
The SoVa (Southside Virginia) Mountain Medical Team will travel to five  remote villages in the mountains of Honduras during SVCC's Spring Break.   Hundreds of villagers will be provided primary and preventative healthcare.  Each woman who brings her family to  the clinic will be given a handmade dishcloth, stitched by Southside Virginia volunteers,  to show appreciation and common bond from our community of women to theirs.  Martha Reed, instructor, ( L to R), her daughter Mary Preston Reed, and Tonia Talbott, counselor, and her daughter, Ally Little (not pictured) will be among those traveling with this mission team.

Panther Pride - SVCC Sports
Basketball  - After a slow start to the season, guard Anthony Harris and the Southside Virginia Community College men's basketball tea m have picked up the pace in January, winning five of their last six games. The two-time defending USA National Post-Grad champions are looking to stay hot as they open defense of their national title the first week of March in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Harris, a sophomore guard for the Panthers, is averaging 28 ppg this season.  See schedule here.

Softball  - Practice and conditioning have begun for the 2017 SVCC Girls Fast Pitch Softball Team.  Former high school players from Bluestone, Central of Lunenburg, Randolph Henry, and Amelia are brushing up on their games to represent the Panthers on the diamond this season.  The first game is scheduled for March 1 against Wake Tech in Raleigh. On March 25, the Panthers will play in a tournament at Longwood against several college club teams. Other games include Virginia State, Patrick Henry Community College, and Richard Bland College. All home games will be played at the Daniel Campus.  Come out and support the Lady Panthers! The schedule will soon be posted on  southside.edu .
Josh Baird has a Cool Job
Josh Baird is a great example of a person with a good work ethic. He graduated from Brunswick High School on a Saturday and began working as a contractor at the Dominion Virginia Power's Brunswick County power station on Monday.
Thanks to training Baird received in high school through Dual Enrollment Classes at Southside Virginia Community College, he was able to obtain this great job at the new facility located in Brunswick County.
"I received certificates in Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and High Performance Technology (HPT) from SVCC (while still in high school)", Baird said. "This is the reason I was able to secure such a great job," he added.
