Barmoy and baseball are basically synonymous. They go together like peanut butter and jelly, night and day, etc. Josh Barmoy, of the baseball playing Brunswick County Barmoys (mom and dad, Amy and Mike, brothers Jared and Jefferson), has been involved in the sport most of his life and continues now as a Physical Education and Health teacher, who also assists coaching football and baseball, at Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte County.
A graduate of Brunswick High School, Barmoy attended the Governor's School of Southside Virginia and received an Associate in Arts and Sciences from Southside Virginia Community College at the same time as his high school diploma. He continued his education at Chowan University where he was a member of the NCAA Division II baseball team. He then attended Longwood University and received a Master's degree in Health and Physical Education.
About his experience, Barmoy said, "
I want to thank SVCC for giving me the opportunity to enroll in a program that allowed me to take college classes and graduate college before high school. I don't know many people that can say they have accomplished this. SVCC enabled me to reach my true potential as a student through the Governor's School program. This program provided an atmosphere that made the transfer to a four-year school easy. SVCC offers students an opportunity to a brighter future."
Barmoy's
goal is to continue instructing students in Health and Physical Education and to become a head varsity baseball coach. He also has a passion for mission work having worked with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and in the summer at Camp Penuel, serving inner-city youth in Missouri.
