YALE DEBATE PRESIDENT HENRY ZHANG SCORES THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
Henry Zhang, Peninsula High Class of 2013 was a founding member of our award winning Speech and Debate Program. While at Peninsula High, he was ranked #1 in the country for Lincoln-Douglas and Policy Debate his senior year. He is an impressive young man who began the legacy of what has become Peninsula High's ranking as one of the top Speech and Debate programs in the country.
The Yale Senior appeared on ABC national news to discuss his views on the finer points of formulating an argument and the effectiveness of each candidate's points. It was so fun listening to him and remembering him as one of our own.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!
Holden Dahlerbruch, a sophomore here at Peninsula High and international celebrity chef, has teamed up with the district to improve school lunches. (Yay!) In order to initiate this process, he is asking students to complete the School Lunch Survey. The results will help identify areas for improvement and set the path for more students to enjoy school lunches.

PEN MUN KICKS OFF THE YEAR AT SOCOMUN
On Saturday, September 23, Peninsula High's Model United Nations club attended the Southern Orange County Model United Nations conference in Santa Margarita.
It was a special occasion for Peninsula's club because it was the first chance for many of the new members to compete in the novice division. It was headed by the newly elected Secretariat Members Joey Black, Sommer DeRudder, and Olivia Mathiesen.
The novice committees, for both freshmen and non-freshman novices, were focused on the United Nations sustainable development goals, allowing for debate about issues ranging from access to water to how to safely educate women and children. They represented the nations of Uganda, Ukraine, Norway, and Costa Rica. The few advanced delegates were able to compete in specialized committees, from a Historical League of Nations committee taking place in the year 1922 to the Organization of American States where the delegates discussed problems facing South American nations. Advanced delegates represented the nation of Bolivia, Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, and Azerbaijan.
The Peninsula delegates performed very well in this first conference, with novices receiving six outstanding awards and eight commendations, along with a Raza Khan taking home a Best Delegate Award. Advanced received three commendations and two Best Delegates from Juliana Yonis and Sydney Bambardekar! This conference was a very successful first conference and shows PEN MUN is poised for a strong year.

In Lincoln-Douglas debate, junior Jonas Le Barillec finished fourth in his pod with an 8-6 record. REACHING OUT TO YOUNGSTERS IN OUR DISTRICT
At last Friday's home football game, band students from PVIS and Ridgecrest played alongside our Marching Band. It was a enjoyable visit for all. Come out and support our great football team and be entertained by our exciting new Field Show - A Tribute to Motown, and other fun performances by the band including the popular Trombone Suicide, Upside Down Drumming, and Clarinet Limbo. The next home game is Friday, October 7 against Mira Costa.
Also, at the football game, we were all entertained by members of the Junior Spirit Corp - a group of PV District students in grades K through 8 that worked with the PVPHS Cheer and Song Teams this past week to learn cheers and routines which they performed for us at the game. Hopefully, this is the start of another great Pen High tradition!
