Time to Sign Up for The Grass Roots Involvement Program (GRIP)
In an effort to have a favorable outcome on legislation involving cities and towns, the Grass Roots Involvement Program (GRIP) has been created for our members who are actively involved in the legislative process.  The GRIP program will allow us to make quick contact with you so you can then make contact with your legislators on issues of importance during the 2017-2018 legislative session. The GRIP Action Alert emails we issue often need you to take action on short notice, so when contacted, you will receive all the information that you need. Mayor Ross Named To NASBA Board
OML wants to congratulate OML Vice President and Choctaw Mayor Randy Ross for being named to the NASBA board!

From the Journal Record:  Randall Ross has been appointed to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy board of directors.  Ross will serve as executive director liaison to the NASBA's board of directors and as chairman of NASBA's Executive Directors Committee.  Ross is executive director of the Oklahoma Accountancy Board and mayor of Choctaw. He has been a certified public accountant since 1983.
Quality Communities Grant Program - Applications Are Now Being Taken
OML has once again partnered with OU's Institute for Quality Communities to offer the Quality Communities Grant Program which will assist its members with up to 50% of the funding to those communities whose projects have been selected by OU's IQC for a project in their community. Applications are to be submitted to OU IQC and deadline to submit a request for assistance is February 15, 2018.

GrantFinder - The Ultimate Grant Search Tool
Access to over 7,500 grants
GrantFinder is an online tool giving license holders the ability to search thousands of grants to possibly utilize in your community.  OMSC has signed an agreement with GrantFinder allowing our members the ability to purchase a license for $50 per year rather than the normal price of $1,195 per year.  There are typically over 7,500 grants to choose from with the ability to use 10 search filters to narrow your search parameters.  If you have any questions, contact Nancee Morris via email or call the OML offices.

The OML District 11 Board seat has become open as of November 7, 2017, due to the Honorable Richard Chapman's resignation from the Board. New For OML Members: The Emergency Response Program
The Oklahoma Municipal League (OML) is excited to announce a training event occurring through the League's Emergency Response Program. Be sure to sign up for the training event entitled "What is Emergency Management/Whole Community & Planning", which will be held at Rose State College Professional Development Center in Midwest City on February 23, 2018 beginning at 9:00 a.m. There is NO CHARGE for this event and is offered as a service to our members. The training will be conducted by Oklahoma Emergency Management and is designed for Elected Officials, Municipal Staff, and Emergency Managers to attend together.   More Information

The Oklahoma Municipal League is seeking a communications specialist who will be responsible for the external communications of the organization including creating press releases, articles and marketing OML programs. Must be an experienced writer with experience in public relations and marketing. This is OML's popular annual course which provides municipal officials and staff with a non-technical  understanding of the annual budget process for municipalities and their role in that process. It is de signed to teach the legal and policy-related responsibilities in the annual budget process and provide practical examples for future reference in the budget process.  More Information

The workshop was a one-day leadership class taught by Dr. Mike Mowery, Strategic Government Resources, President of Servant Leadership Implementation. "Culture eats strategy for breakfast" by Peter Drucker, was one of the quotes Dr. Mowery gave the class. The workshop was designed to teach how to create the kind of culture you desire. The class learned about creating a servant leadership culture, the importance of listening, building community, healing, and stewardship. Dr. Mowery discussed these concepts and had the class members discuss the topics with each other as a group.  Read About the Class
