SNHBA LAUNCHES BUILDING INDUSTRY CLASSES

SNHBA EO Nat Hodgson welcomes the first class of students
signed up for the association's new NAHB education program.

Eight students signed up for the association's inaugural class in the newly launched education program, a joint effort with the Lied Institute of Real Estate Studies at UNLV.

SNHBA and Lied are offering National Association of Home Builder classes in April, May and June at the SNHBA office. Longtime UNLV Construction Professor Neil Opfer, standing to the right, is teaching the three classes.

The first class, " Building Technology: Structures and Exterior Finishes," was conducted on April 30. The next classes are " Estimating for Builders and Remodelers" on May 21 (only two seats remain), and " Business Management for Building Professionals" on June 11. The classes are part of NAHB's professional designations program. The cost is $149 per student. Seating is limited to 12 students per class.

Professor Opfer, students review building codes.

EXCEPTIONAL TURNOUT FOR 51S BASEBALL GAME

SNHBA members and guests purchased more than 500 tickets for the special SNHBA gathering at the Las Vegas 51s baseball game on April 28 at Cashman Field.

More than $1,500 of the ticket sales were donated to the SNHBA's HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter to benefit efforts on behalf of the homeless in our community. Last year, about 300 tickets were sold, with nearly $1,000 going to HomeAid.

A great time was had by all, despite the rain!

BUILDERS, ASSOCIATES NETWORK AT 'TURN THE TABLES'

Builder members staffed tables to meet with Associate members.

More than 250 members turned out for the members-only "Turn the Tables" Night/Associate Member Appreciation Networking Mixer, sponsored by NV Energy, on April 25 at the Orleans Hotel.

The mixer brought together Builder and Associate members for a unique opportunity for one-on-one, face-to-face networking.

SNHBA salutes the 22 Builder member companies that participated:  American West Homes, Beazer Homes, Blue Heron, CalAtlantic Homes, Century Communities, DR Horton, Dream Construction, KB Home, Lennar, Lewis Management Corp., Pardee Homes, Pinnacle Homes, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes, Shea Homes, Signature Homes, Storybook Homes, Summit Homes, Toll Brothers, Warmington Residential, William Lyon Homes and Woodside Homes.

Also, SNHBA thanks the representatives of the Southern Nevada chapter of the International Code Council and Southern Nevada Building Officials for staffing a Builder Officials table at the mixer.

The HomeAid Southern Nevada team was front and
center at the 'Turn the Tables' Night mixer.

Typically, 'Turn the Tables' Night is conducted in September. However, the board voted to move the event to April to give our HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter more time this year to raise its visibility among association members.

SNHBA salutes member NV Energy for its outstanding support as sponsor of 'Turn the Tables' Night for many years.

Also, our member, Claire DeJesus of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, deserves a "thank you" for being a guardian angel, watching over the event to ensure its success.
