First Quarter Success for HomeAid Southern Nevada!

The chapter has enjoyed great momentum and successes in the first quarter, thanks to our amazing build teams, community partners and volunteers who have given generously of their time, talents and treasure.

We continue to expand our fundraising and outreach initiatives to engage the community at large, and we're excited about the new partnerships we're forging each week. We are grateful to our SNHBA members who support our efforts, and continue to see the value of what HomeAid does as we share the generosity of the home building industry with Southern Nevada. You are all truly the foundation of our success!

There are 34,397 sheltered and unsheltered homeless living in Southern Nevada, according to the 2015 Homeless Census completed by Southern Nevada Homeless Continuum of Care. While this number is a slight decrease (.01) from 2014, the need for support has never been more critical. The need continues to drive HomeAid to identify and partner with organizations that are part of the solution to get these individuals and families on their feet.

Pictured, the 2016 Target Homelessness clay shoot fundraiser.
Our 3rd Target Homelessness sporting clay event in March raised over $70,000! For the second year, we were proud to partner with the Nevada Subcontractors Association to host the event, which raises money and awareness for homelessness in the valley. We have already secured the date for our 2017 event (March 3), and have begun planning to make the event bigger and better! Special thank you to the teams and sponsors who have supported this event year after year. We look forward to seeing you again next spring!

HomeAid Southern Nevada's Shelter Selection Committee formally adopted four shelter build projects for 2016. Projects include Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada Men's shelter renovation, Calcaterra Circle transitional housing renovations, St. Jude's Ranch for Children roofing project and, finally, the US Vets kitchen remodel! It will be a busy year, to say the least, but the impact of these projects continues to show the desperate need for housing and human services in our community.

As we look forward to the spring and summer months, we thank everyone for their passion, support and help as we spread the word about HomeAid in our community!

The 512 Calcatera Circle building was completed in late March. Chapter supporters contributed $45,000 in time, labor and materials to extensively remodel and modernize the apartments.

KB Home was the build captain, supervising the building rehab. The other partners on the project were Andrade's Cleaning Co., ATI Windows, Cal Pac Painting, Carpets N More, Classic Door & Trim, Cooper Roofing & Solar, Coronado Concrete & Masonry, Desert Steel, Enix Mechanical, Focus Plumbing, Home Team Pest Defense, IES Residential, Original Roofing Co., Petersen Dean Roofing & Sheet Metal, Roadrunner Drywall, SelectBuild BMC, Sherwin Williams, Sierra Air Conditioning, TopNotch Services, Vegas View Drywall & Paint and WesCor Framing.

Spotlight on a Supporter
Bank of America

Back to School backpacks at Project 150, which provides services to
local homeless and at-risk high school students.

HomeAid Southern Nevada thanks our National Partner, Bank of America, for its significant contribution of $15,000 over that past three years, plus another $10,000 this year, to continue the chapter's annual Back to School drive and veterans' shelter build project this year.

Bank of America has donated $5,000 annually for the past three years to help fund the chapter's Back to School backpack drive, which allowed the chapter to collect supplies and assemble more than 1,500 backpacks for homeless and at-risk local high school students. HomeAid is pleased to partner with Project 150 on the annual backpack drive.

This year, Bank of America contributed $10,000 to be used toward the major remodeling of the US Vets kitchen, which serves homeless veterans. That project will begin later this year.

In addition to funding, the bank's employees have contributed significant time and effort to assisting with chapter events and projects, especially the assembly of the backpacks for the homeless youth.

Bank of America is a major supporter of HomeAid nationally. What's unusual about Bank of America is that it supports both shelter projects and advocacy; typically, benefactors support one or the other, but not both.

Bank of America is one of the world's leading financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small and middle-market businesses and large corporations with a full range of banking, investing, asset management and other financial and risk management products and services. The company serves approximately 47 million consumer and small business relationships with approximately 4,700 retail financial centers, approximately 16,000 ATMs, and award-winning online banking with approximately 32 million active users and approximately 19 million mobile users. Click here to learn more about Bank of America.
