WACA Spring Leadership Meeting 2015

 

Pre-Leadership Day Conference Calls

On Friday, February 20, at 2:00 PM ET, the National Office will host a conference call with prospective attendees and those who will attend the Leadership Meeting to discuss agenda items and other topics Council leaders would like addressed.

 

There will be an additional call held on Tuesday, February 24, at 4:00 PM ET. Participants can register for one or both.

The World Affairs Councils of America's is delighted to invite Member Council executives, staff, and board members to this year's Spring Leadership Meeting. As those of you who have attended past Spring Leadership Meetings in San Francisco, New York, Denver, and Chicago know, the program provides a unique, concentrated opportunity to network with fellow Council leaders and discuss best practices, covered in a variety of workshops.

This spring, the World Affairs Council of Atlanta will host the program, starting with an Opening Reception on Thursday evening, March 26, at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Attendees will enjoy the chance engage with Fed Atlanta President & CEO Dennis Lockhart, who will make remarks. Mr. Lockhart is the founding chairman of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. Leadership Meeting professional development sessions will be held Friday, March 27.

WACA's Best Practices Teleconference Series featured Tony Culley-Foster, who in December 2014 succeeded Heidi Shoup as President and CEO of World Affairs Council - Washington, DC. Tony discussed Annual Gala Dinners - How to Achieve Success. WAC-DC is currently preparing for its annual Global Education Gala on March 5.

The World Affairs Councils of America is seeking nominations of excellent candidates for the WACA National Board of Directors. The Nominating Committee of the WACA Board would appreciate your recommendations of individuals who fully support the World Affairs Councils of America's effort to strengthen and provide value to member Councils, and who will work to fulfill our common mission of educating, engaging, and inspiring the public on global issues. The Committee is primarily interested in candidates from the corporate sector who are willing to become Supporting Members of the WACA Board. Such candidates perhaps have recently rotated off local Council boards. We also welcome nominations of Council leaders.

February 1918 Society Conference Call


The World Affairs Councils of America will host Scott Carpenter, Deputy Director, Google Ideas, for a 1918 Society Conference Call on Censorship in the Digital Age

The call will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 2:00 PM ET. WACA President and CEO Bill Clifford will moderate the call.

Scott Carpenter is the Deputy Director of Google Ideas, Google's new "think/do" tank, where he is responsible for driving the portfolio addressing illicit networks as well as advising on its strategy in three other key areas: confronting violent extremism, expanding freedom of expression in closed societies and securing citizens in weak states. Prior to joining Google, Scott founded and directed Project Fikra as the Keston Family Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, an effort to use connective technologies to share ideas among Arab democrats and connect them with each other and to policy makers in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere. He received his masters degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Academic WorldQuest 2014-2015

National Competition
The 2015 Academic WorldQuest National Competition will take place Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center in Washington, DC.

Registration
