"The Beginning of an End"

Dear Church~

Sunday is the last day of the church year. We begin the new church year on Sunday, November 30 with the first Sunday in Advent. Sunday's text announces that Jesus is King. The surprise of the text is that Jesus shows himself as King in a far different manner then when we think of earthly royalty. There were many in Jesus' day who wanted a king to rule with power. There were those who wanted Jesus to show that kind of leadership. Jesus talked about serving, caring, giving. Sunday's Gospel lesson is Matthew 25:31-46 and is the basis for Christ the King Sunday.

Please remember to bring your pledges for 2015 and your time and talent sheets. We will receive them as you bring them to the altar along with your regular offering for the day. The Stewardship Committee has agreed that they will consider each time and talent sheet turned in and contact those persons. They will also make sure that our time and talent sheets will go to those people leading our particular area of interest.

You have received the letter from the church under the heading of "Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart." It provides an opportunity to share in giving a year-end gift to the church to help in meeting our 2014 budget. We are truly thankful for your consideration and response to this request.

You are invited to worship on Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00 pm for our Thanksgiving Eve Service and pie social which follows. A great time to remember all the good reasons for us to be thankful. Have a blessed holiday with family and loved ones.

See you in Church!

Gratitude Containers
Many of us picked up a "Gratitude Container" in February and during the year when we have felt gratitude we have placed a coin or two in that container.  Those containers will now be collected.  On Nov. 23 as we place our offerings, pledge cards, and time and talent sheets on the altar, we will also place our gratitude containers.  Our coins will go to three locations.  Locally, we will be giving to Shobi's Table, a food truck ministry of the Saint Paul Area Synod, nationally the money will go to Women of the ELCA and internationally to women's ministry of the Lutheran Church in Guatemala.  If a check is what you prefer to write, please write "Gratitude" on the memo line.  You may designate if you wish your coins to go to one of the three ministries.

"Gratitude begins in our hearts and then dovetails into behavior.  It almost always makes you willing to be of service, which is where the joy resides" - Anne Lamott

Advent Teas
This Sunday began sign up for the ADvent eVENT teas for women.  Five teas will be held the first week in December at various homes and at various times so every woman should be able to find a time.  This is a great opportunity to meet with others in a small group setting, to share an Advent story as well as some treats.  And, it will help us remember the reason for the season before getting into that Christmas rush.  Check out the times and dates at the table in the gathering area today.  Or, you can sign up during the week with the church office.

Humanity is not the owner but a steward of God's creation.
