CSI Annual Golf Tournament

August 21, 2014

12:30 - 6:00 PM

This will be a busy year for the Portland Chapter, and we are getting all of our ducks in a row early. Many of you or your firms have participated in the CSI Golf Tournament in one way or another in previous years.  We like to give our longtime supporters the first opportunity to sign up.

Last year, we sold out, and we hope to do so again this year. The earlier you sign up, the more advertising you receive leading up to the event. A big thank you to our early bird sponsors/golfers: DeaMor Associates, Precision Images, Professional Roof Consultants, Weller Associates, Husqvarna, Fortifiber, Forbo Flooring, Tice Industries, Tnemec Company Inc., ARC of Oregon, Toto USA, and Mercer Windows.

We took your suggestions to heart!

We will start an hour earlier this year for a better ending time and will draw raffle tickets after registration and have post the winning numbers. This will help make the event more streamlined and have more time for dinner and networking.

 EDUCATION
Education Committee Report:
Lecture Series Successful
Cherise Schacter, CSI, CDT, President-Elect, Education Chair

In the 2013/2014 fiscal year, the Portland CSI Education Committee exceeded its goals for additional, low cost, value-added education events for our members.  The Committee will be taking a break to help prepare for the NW Region Conference and the upcoming fiscal year.

Come Fall 2014, however, we will be back it. Be on the lookout for the Mock Bid Event coming in September!  Experience the whirl and frenzy that estimators go through on bid day.  Can you meet the challenge?  Date and location TBD.

In March, I once again attended the CSI Academies held in Indianapolis.  If you have never attended, please consider checking it out next year.  It is a great three-day event filled with education and networking.  I am excited to share information from this event with you in the next newsletter.

 KRAKEN
Kraken Rule #59: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
Cherise Schacter, CSI ,CDT, #CSIKraken

An (unofficial) requirement to be a part of the Portland CSI Kraken Committee is to take it to the next level, step out of your comfort zone and see what you can achieve.  Having somehow landed as the voice for the CSI Krakens, I have to practice what I preach.  In March, I launched my very first blog.  This is something I have wanted to do for a long time but let fear of the unknown get it my way.  Well, in true Kraken fashion, that is now one more item that I can cross off my life goals list.  I am putting it out there and invite you to share in my inaugural effort.  Start with Part 1.

Gratitude!

I would like to take just a short moment each month to highlight a few of our amazing volunteers who bring you such rich and varied programs, events and education.

  • Tony DiVincenzo, Ideate Inc.,Board of Directors, Industry Forum Committee - Tony is that guy who, regardless of your needs, will find a way to help make it happen.  Tony is an active participant in our stellar Industry Forum event as well as an engaged Board Member and supporter of CSI.  We appreciate Tony's willingness to pitch in wherever needed and help get it done.  Thank you very much!
  • Fred Larson, Mercer-Industries, Board Member, Golf Committee & Chili Master - Fred is not only an active and engaged member of our Chapter, Board and Golf Committee but is also our reigning Chili Master extraordinaire!  Not only is Fred always willing to help, he has got to be one of the nicest guys I have ever met.  Don't let his quiet demeanor fool you either - any man that will put on a hula skirt and coconut bra for the good of the cause is fine by me.  Thank you, Fred!

Next time you see one of these individuals, take a moment to thank them for their hard work and dedication to the Portland Chapter of CSI.  Watch this section each month for thank you's to other amazing Chapter volunteers.

 SOCIAL MEDIA
Are you social?
Cherise Schacter, CSI, CDT, Tweep

There are a lot of dedicated bloggers in CSI and a group (true Krakens) came together last month on a conference call to share tips and tricks on blogging.  This is what CSI is all about.  These members from all over the country, took time out of their busy schedules to help me get started and help each other achieve success.  I thank each of them for their kindness and support.  You can read about the meeting in Marvin Kemp's (Baltimore Chapter) March blog below.

Each month, we will be sharing a few new social media resources. Check out these new blogs and tweeps to follow or DOWNLOAD FULL LIST >
