In recognition of National School Choice Week, Energy Institute High School was featured on Houston Public Media, an NPR affiliate, this morning.  To listen to the story visit  Houston Public Media.
Technology Inventory
Last Friday, students participated in a mid-year technology inventory check.  Teachers checked that students had their laptop, laptop bag and strap, battery, and power cord.  Students were given a letter to take home informing parents of what items they were missing that day and the cost of the item.  This is just a mid-point check so that students and parents are aware of the potential costs for any missing items at the end of the school year.  You can access a copy of that letter here.
Guest Speaker Dress Code
Thursday, February 4th, tenth grade students will have a guest speaker event and will need to be in an Energy polo.  Students will now be given detention if they are not wearing a school polo at these required events. If you believe your child received detention by mistake (either they purchased a polo or were wearing it at the event) please ask them to speak with Ms. Moon.
First Responders Alcohol and Drug Prevention Seminar

Last week our 9th grade students participated in a Drug and Alcohol Awareness seminar led by first responders from the Houston Fire Department Paramedic Unit and HISD Police Department. Paramedic Molina and Detective Gutierrez spoke to students about their experiences responding to drug/alcohol incidents and the effects this incidents have on not only the person involved but their family and community.  It is our goal to make sure we provide and maintain the safest school environment possible at Energy.  A letter with more information was sent home with students.  You can find a copy of that letter here.
Student of the Week
This week's Student of the Week nominee is ninth grade student, Oscar Sosa.  Oscar was nominated by his Algebra 1 teacher Ms. Kristick. "Oscar has consistently been my most focused and on task students from day one.  He is happy to help his peers and always has thoughtful questions and comments to contribute to class discussions.  I love having him in class and can't wait to see him succeed in the future!" Oscar applied to Energy after hearing about it from his teachers at Chrysalis Middle School.  They thought Oscar would be a perfect fit for Energy and they were right!  "My favorite class is engineering.  The hydraulic lift project we did last semester was definitely the best project I've done so far.  We got to do everything on that project.  Ms. Finberg let us really build it on our own and was there to offer support.  I learned a lot that way."  Oscar said that learning to manage his time and working in groups has been his key to finding success at Energy this year.  "I really like that it is challenging here, but also a lot of fun because we work on projects and do a lot with technology."  We are very proud of Oscar and all of his hard work this year.  Keep up the great work!
National Honors Society

Congratulations to our inaugural National Honors Society inductees! Last Thursday, Energy Institute inducted twenty students into the NHS. Students took their oath, participated in the candle lighting, and closed out the night with a group selfie!  Great job to all those who helped make induction night special for our students, especially Ms. De La Rosa and Dr. Hall.
Energy is Growing
Next year we will be expanding to full capacity as we will have our first senior class.  We are looking for upper level math, science, engineering, history, and English teachers.  If you are interested in working at an innovative, collaborative, dynamic campus or you know someone who would be a great fit, please email [email protected].  Come join our team and change the way we educate future leaders!
Energy Institute Blood Drive
Our first Blood Drive was a great success today! Over twenty students successfully donated blood to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Thank you to Ms. Watts and her team of Energy students for organizing this great event for our community.

February is American Heart Month. According to the American Heart Association, "cardiovascular disease - including heart disease, stroke, and high blood perssure - is responsible for one out of every three deaths.  It is the number one killer of American women and men, and it is a leading cause of serious illness and disability."  This month make an effort to take small steps that will lead to important lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and mitigating stress in your life.
