Elena Poptodorova, Embassy of Bulgaria; Jonathan Katz, U.S. Agency for International Development; Ofer Glanz, American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and David Feinman, World Jewish Restitution Organization will give an update on the region, address property restitution, and discuss Jewish needs in the region. Read more   

 

NCSEJ at the Global Forum on Combating Antisemitism

NCSEJ Executive Director Mark Levin joined hundreds of participants in Jerusalem at the 5th Global Forum on Combating Antisemitism. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the opening of the forum, urging leaders to fight against a "resurgent anti-Semitism" spreading in the Middle East and the West.

The conference featured many prominent religious and government leaders who discussed the rise in global anti-Semitism. Levin co-chaired the Working Group on Anti-Semitism in the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, participating in discussions with scholars, representatives of the regions Jewish communities and governments, and members of Jewish agencies and international organizations. NCSEJ Deputy Director Lesley Weiss and her mother Irene Fogel Weiss, an Auschwitz survivor, went to Germany to testify in the trial against former SS Sgt. Oskar Groening, who is charged with being an accessory to 300,000 murders.  Read more

NCSEJ congratulates our Chairman Stephen Greenberg on his election as the next Chair of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. Steve will continue to serve as Chairman of NCSEJ, a position he has held since December 2012.  Read more  
 
NCSEJ Diplomats Program Event

NCSEJ organized a program for diplomats from the former Soviet Union region to watch a Washington Nationals baseball game. The relaxed atmosphere gave us a perfect opportunity to explain to our guests about American sports and to discuss issues about Jewish life in their countries.    

 

NCSEJ Young Leadership Program Event

NCSEJ held a young Jewish leadership event in cooperation with Druzya DC, a local group of young Russian-speaking Jewish Americans.


 

The event featured Director of the Kennan Institute Dr. Matthew Rojansky and NCSEJ Executive Director Mark Levin. Discussions included U.S.-Russia relations, implications of the Ukraine crisis on the Eurasia region, Jewish communities in Ukraine and Russia, Iran, and other issues of importance to the Jewish community. NCSEJ organized an off-the-record conference call with U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt to discuss the current situation in Ukraine.   
World Jewish Congress Executive Committee Meetings

NCSEJ participated in the World Jewish Congress Executive Committee meeting, which met in Washington, D.C. to discuss the growing threats to Jewish communities and the surge in anti-Semitism. 

The WJC Executive Committee leaders met with senior U.S. lawmakers and administration officials, among the participants. Vice President Joe Biden joined the WJC Executives at a special reception.   

Meeting with Chairman of Georgia's Parliament 

March 6 

NCSEJ  organized a meeting for American Jewish community representatives with Chairman of Georgia's Parliament David Usupashvili, in Washington. 

Issues discussed included the situation in the region, the crisis in Ukraine, Georgia's Jewish community, and the country's relations with the United States and Israel. During the meeting, Chairman Usupashvili reiterated Georgia's commitment to democratic values and to a close partnership with the United States and Europe.
