Tax Practitioner Institute - 2015

HOST:  SCORE MAINE is hosting the Maine Tax Practitioner Institute which is a one-day program in October offered in three separate locations; Augusta, Bangor and Portland.  SCORE Maine also hosts the Maine Tax Forum, a two-day program offered in Augusta in November.  

WHEN & WHERE:  This one-day educational program will be held at three separate locations:

  • Portland - October 20th       Italian Heritage Center, 40 Westland Avenue, Portland
  • Bangor -   October 22nd      Jeff's Catering Inc., Brewer
  • Augusta - October 28th       Augusta Civic Center

What We Offer:

  • Continuing Education, including of Ethics for tax preparers, enrolled agents, CPAs and attorneys.  Historically, our program has been fully approved by the IRS, the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar, and the Maine Board of Accountanct for CE credits.
  • University of Illinois 2015 Federal Tax Workbook, including topics covering: New Developments, Due Diligence, IRS Updates, Education Tax Provisions, Capitalization vs. Repair, Small Business Issues, Terminating C Corp Ownership, and Depreciation. 
  • Presentation by Maine Department of Revenue representatives on 2015 changes to Maine Tax Laws and differences between Maine Tax Law and Federal Tax Law
  • Ethics concerns for practitioners, enrolled agents, CPAs and attorneys.
  • Presentations by area tax professionals on subjects recommended by last year's participants and topics in the University of Illinois Workbook.

COST:  $145 for each registrant.  This includes a full lunch, snacks, the University of Illinois 2015 Federal Tax Workbook and CE certificates.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION CREDITS:

• CPE and CLE credits are available.  

• CPAs - The Maine Board of Accountancy does not certify education providers or pre-approve any courses for continuing education credits. In the past, the Maine Tax Practitioner Institute programs have been accepted by the Board for continuing education credits.    Click here to review the Board of Accountancy rules.  Eight sessions, including six (6) sessions on tax law and updates and two (2) on ethics are offered.

• ATTORNEYS – The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar approved credits are approved for 6.67 credits, including 1.67 credits for ethics.

• TAX PROFESSIONALS – The Maine Tax Practitioner Institute is an IRS approved Continuing Education Provider.  The IRS approval has approved 6 CE credits for Federal Tax Law and 2 CE credits for Ethics.

• IRS CREDITS FOR TAX RETURN PREPARERS - On July 1, 2014, the IRS launched the new Annual Filing Season Program, ("AFSP"). If all requirements are met with regard to AFSP, a Record of Completion will be issued to the tax return preparer by the IRS.
